Have they gotten better at testing or have they gotten better at hiding doping?
They hold samples indefinitely and will retroactively test samples when new methods are uncovered.
Yep my reaction was:
Wow, that’s amazing, I guess they finally perfected steroids
Better at bribing
Yeah this is what we call a type 2 anomaly.
My first thought was “oh, I wonder what new performance enhancing drug has been discovered”
Or “did they give up on testing all together”?
And “did they learn to hide it well”?
“Doping technology outpaces detection technology for the first time”
Headline fixed.
So the dopers got so good that they didn’t find it? Or did they just forget to test the Russians?
The Russian national teams are banned from the games iirc
Yes and no. They participated as athletes without Russian flag or anthem, although the were an official Russian team at the Paralympics, IIRC. The IOC is anything but consequent.
N yes
I’m sure there’s plenty of grey market peptides yet to make the list.
They’re using something that’s not being tested for yet.
in addition to new doping substances like other commenters said, let’s not forget about good old fashion bribery.
since the usa with not provide any anti-corruption support to anyone anywhere for at least several more years, the other countries’ funding is stretched thinner.
I wonder what would happen if everybody failed the doping tests. Would they cancel the Olympics or would they have a special doped out Olympics instead?
Fuck it, pick spectators at random and let them compete.
Honestly, that would probably be a better Olympics.
That’s something I’d definitely watch!
How is this uplifting? That we finally allow doping in Olympics?
More than 3,000 samples were collected from almost 2,000 athletes during February’s Winter Olympic Games in Milan-Cortina, Italy, and no anti-doping rule violations have been reported.
While I don’t have much trust in WADA, they are ostensibly still testing for banned substances.
