Just a reminder that “sideloading” is a garbage term. They mean installing from somewhere other than their rent-seeking app store.
Thanks for the reminder to switch back to Graphene. I decided to give the Pixel 10 a shot on the stock OS and holy fuck is modern android absolute horseshit. I need root back so I can fix god damn everything. Android has been in a shit spiral since like v10.
I hope Motorola pans out, Samsung phones are fucking unusable.
I just got the 10a. Put graphene on it before activating it, so I can’t really comment on stock.
Is there a way to back up my phone so that I can roll back if graphene doesn’t pan out for me?
Some manufacturers distribute their systems’ images afaik. You could see if yours has that too.
Also, backing up your original system, from what I searched a few years back, wasn’t a thing, but things change fast so maybe there’s a way now.
Not really. Android lacks a comprehensive full-system backup option like iOS has. It’s one of my biggest gripes about the OS. Best you can do is a cloud backup, which only saves certain apps’ data like games.
Many free roms such as CalyxOS, GrapheneOS, iodéOS include Seedvault.
I’ve even successfully migrated between those. Some settings or pre-installed apps might be different, so you should check your settings, but all apps will be there. In my case only the banking app wanted me to log in again, seems to verify some sort of device identifier.
That sucks…
Thanks. I’m gonna have to take the plunge I guess…
Maybe I could sync with an other phone and then sync that back?
sideloading rulesWhat about phones in which there are already some apps sideloaded?
believe it or not, straight to jail
Still one month until my Pixel arrives. I can’t wait to say bye to Android
