The result is a devastating pincer: Hormuz physically disrupts nitrogen supply, the resulting sulfur shortage pressures Chinese domestic production, and Beijing’s export restrictions administratively constrain phosphate supply for the rest of the world. Farmers now confront what may be the first simultaneous disruption of all three primary nutrient complexes since the Haber-Bosch process was industrialized.

Weird, I was just talking about phosphates…

To clarify, that phosphate “production” is really mining a finite resources that eventually gets dumped into the ocean.

Eventually we’ll run out, and it will cause global agriculture to crash and mass global starvation.

When crops fail, everything else will be consumed.

the ore grade getting shittier and more contaminated with heavy metals and those metals accumulating in the soils everywhere those fertilizers are used will fuck humanity sooner and already is in many places.

Yeah, there’s not exactly environmentally safe ways to do large scale mining.

That other thread I mentioned was filled with people willfully ignorant of the process.

I think people have just latched so hard onto veganism and how it can solve everything.

I think if they every realize how similar it is to fossil fuels, it’ll click. But right now people just can’t think that far ahead. And too be fair there’s like 37 different things that can end us all first anyway.

Doesn’t mean we should keep ignoring problems as a species until the last minute tho.
