I decided to improve my outdoor crafting area and possibly enclose it. I tore down my tier 5 farmer鈥檚 workbench to put cobblestone under it, and when I replaced it, it is now tier 1.

When a higher tier workbench drops, it also drops all the materials used to upgrade it, so you should be able to place it down and upgrade back to tier 5.
Yep. You remodel the house around the bench, not the other way around :)

Luckily it was only the farmer鈥檚 bench. I had everything I needed to get back minus the aubergines. If it was a furnace or the armor bench I would have been upset.
