Trying to get the ball rolling here.
Anybody with real world experience upgrading Odoo CE through OpenUpgrade? I run two Odoo installations, one for myself and one for a client, that are on v15 and v17. Upgrading doesn鈥檛 seem very urgent or necessary at the moment for either instance, but once in a while I wonder how much trouble I鈥檒l be in when the need arises.
OpenUpgrade looks very patchy, and to be honest it seems like a daunting task.
Any experiences or best practices?
I didn鈥檛 know there was an Odoo community I should鈥檝e been subbed to!
Do you have a lot of customizations? If not, I鈥檝e heard OpenUpgrade can usually handle things fine.
As soon as you have customizations, things get dicey. Odoo loves changing things around, sometimes for seemingly no reason. Of course this is also a good moment to evaluate the necessity of any customizations - maybe you don鈥檛 need to port them all over?
Also this goes without saying, but don鈥檛 run OpenUpgrade straight on prod. Create a database copy to test on. Always have backups.
