I love i3wm and would like to switch to sway for the advantages of not using xorg. But is it worth it with a laptop that has an old nividia/intel hybrid video card? I had read that it was complicated to use nvidia cards with wayland

I have a 3080 ti, you can run sway with sway --unsupported-gpu on Nvidia cards, but it has a lot of problems and things frequently don鈥檛 work, I don鈥檛 even recommend trying it. I鈥檝e tried most solutions that I could find with no success. You鈥檙e better off just sticking with i3 until Nvidia or Wayland gives in (don鈥檛 hold your breath though, it鈥檚 not going to be any time soon)

I have several laptops that all have nvidia/intel cards (it鈥檚 hard to avoid them). They all work perfectly with sway using the nouveau drivers. I haven鈥檛 tried the proprietary drivers as I have no use for gaming, just firefox, emacs, mythtv and mpv movies.
