I started reading this book by Gabor Mat茅, a doctor who has ADHD. In just the first chapter, I felt seen in a way that I have never experienced with any therapist or psychiatrist I have consulted in almost 47 years.
I don鈥檛 want to take away from Mat茅s book helping you/being a good read, but they are a layman when it comes to adhd.
Dr. Russel Barkley often has videos analysing Mat茅s opinions, which are well worth a watch (and he is great with quoting sources so free rabbit holes disappear into)
I liked it but I also felt it was a bit outdated. I鈥檝e gone back to it a couple times but during that, admittedly scattered, time I finished Taking Charge of Adult ADHD by Dr. Barkley and then recently started How to ADHD by Jessica McCabe.
I鈥檒l admit my opinion/openness to the book changed after I learned how effective and well-researched medication is and noticed he mentions a few times in the first few chapters how he doesn鈥檛 seem to believe the science or just disregards it.
Note: Just checked and realized Dr. Barkley鈥檚 book first came out only a year after Dr. Mate鈥檚 so I guess they鈥檙e originally not that far apart.
FWIW - Jessica McCabe鈥檚 How to ADHD audiobook is available in Spotify Premium
I can second this book. But also, I鈥檝e not been able to finish it.
