| 1 month ago | mod | Removed Comment Defending your opinion isn't dying on a hill, it should be the default way an opinion is presented. It does seem out of place here on social media so you're not wrong that it's weird.
The issue here was that the person wanted to treat my comment, about the meme that they were sharing, as if it were an attack against them and reverted to sarcastic strawmen.
I have no reason to think that they don't believe what they say they believe, only that using that meme to try to address media whitewashing is low effort. There are plenty of things to say about the topic, from how media has become a large business controlled by a few private entities or how ad revenue is so important now that the rules of the advertisers are more important than informing their readers leading to self-censorship.
Simply posting a meme that says 'Uh, acktually you mean rape' isn't advancing that position.
I hope that person continues to believe their position, they're not wrong. I also hope that they find a better way of advocating for it that isn't just copy pasting the popular memes.
