Well when you discover that the "land of the free/home of the brave" is mostly false advertising while "liberty and justice" only applies if you're a richwhiteman, then that requires a bit of a revaluation of your country. Take an even closer look, and you find that the USA is just what was once called a "third world country" with just some better branding. Of course folks that could would try to get out.

Even if you didn’t break it, you still have responsibility to fix it. Or do you also passively watch a house burning down? Society takes effort, not walking away. Knowing the US these escapees probably never voted, or for Trump even. And then they come over here and drive the rents up…. No, please stay away.

I know you can't emigrate to another country unless you're rich, but you aren't talking about that. You mention work visas. You should go into how long those last and how it is renewing that, or if you have to hop to another country. Also, if you maintain US citizenship, you must pay taxes in the US on foreign made income. Not so if you renounce your US citizenship, but that requires citizenship somewhere else (I think — I'm not sure). It all sounds nice, but I'm in my mid-40s and honestly it just sounds scary. I get that you're trying to reach younger people, though. And that's cool. Options are good.

All the numbers in the world mean nothing if they don’t match what actually happens on the ground. I mean seriously, why would anyone ever get a teaching degree and work at real schools if they could make 3x as much tutoring at Happy Giraffe?

> Nope, all you need is to speak English to start teaching This is untrue for visa requirements, you need experience and/or a TEFL. My legality concern was them offering english teaching jobs to non-native speakers, which is sketchy ground. And either way, my point stands that **no one** is making 100k USD a year as a fresh-off-the-boat with a TEFL at a training center. Delete my comment again if you want to keep misleading people but we both know it's the truth.

You’re definitely not going to make that kind of money in China without considerable experience and education. $50 USD an hour for tutoring is doable but you’d never find 40 hours a week worth of that. Frankly I think the listing might be for illegal work too, if it’s legitimate at all.

IDK Man, $400 dollars for a one-bedroom apartment is hard to find in most of the world according to [this.](https://www.globalpropertyguide.com/property-rent-prices-by-country) Possible, yes, but you need to be flexible with where you live. Like Cambodia, Mumbai, and Macedonia. $400 won't even get you notoriously cheap places like Hungary or Croatia.

Where are you going to find a teaching job for $225 per hour? The cross post has $50 per hour jobs as an example, which is great money, but it is $2000 per week, not 9000. I don't feel like doing the interest math, but that means you'll be saving 1/8 of what you were saying, so ballpark you're retiring in 16 years instead of 2.

I don't think calling a ridiculous fee for a layover "a shakedown" qualifies as misinformation -- and you even agree with me that it would be ridiculous! I was using the term lightheartedly, and I realize that perhaps the tone didn't carry over in text for you, but it is -- *quite literally* -- extortion when a government overcharges people for trivial actions: > extortion noun > > 1 the act or practice of extorting especially money or other property especially : the offense committed by an official engaging in such practice > > 2 something extorted > especially : **a gross overcharge** From https://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/extortion Emphasis mine.

> €20 (about $8) €20 is about $23.77 USD currently... > Required Even for Transit: If you have a layover in an ETIAS country, approval is mandatory. That just sounds like a shakedown to me.

Only if you want to travel every six months and always rent. Most places will give you a 90 day visa with a single 90 day extension. That means at least every six months if not more often you're going to have to uproot your life and live somewhere else. It's not horrible to do but something you'll have to budget for and think about. Also you'll have to make sure you maintain few possessions or keep storage space in at least 2 countries for your things.

Without further details this feels like a post to trap broke travelers abroad. Where can I earn 10k a month teaching English?
