wirelesswire@lemmy.zipto Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•Have you seen Neon Genesis Evangelion?English41·2 days agoI watched it in the early 00’s. A friend at school torrented it and burned the episodes to cd for me. It wasn’t my first anime, but it was among the first I saw that wasn’t on Toonami. It was very different from the typical shounen stuff I was used to seeing and showed me that the medium could be dark.

It was bizarre holding a heavy glass door one second, and only a few shards the next.
Ambition. Some people just want to gain and do more, regardless of what they already accomplished. Sometimes these ambitious people find themselves in a position of wealth and power, and they want more.
One more than I’ve about had enough of this.
wirelesswire@lemmy.zipto Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•Do you let your dog or cat up on your bed?English2·6 days agoI have a dog who weighs ~45 lbs and is a total bed hog. I’ve tried her in the bed a few times in the 8 years I’ve had her, but it’s always a bad night sleep for me. Not only does she hog the bed, but she wakes me up by getting up and shaking off or by shifting and kicking me.
She is allowed on the couch, though, and I love taking naps with her. I think the main difference is I’m only sleeping for a hour or so, rather than all night.

It means you get the tools while someone else spends the significant resources to develop and maintain it. There are FOSS engines available, but those aren’t as developed or widespread.
wirelesswire@lemmy.zipto Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•Are you experiencing any shortages where you live?English9·11 days agoNotice how one says milk chocolate and the other says milk chocolate flavored. For something to be called “milk chocolate” in the USA, it must have at least 10% by weight of chocolate liquor. Chocolate liquor is the result of grinding cacao, and must be 50-60% cacao fat.
What you see, especially around Easter, is a lot of cheaper candies labeled chocolate flavored or chocolatey or similar, instead of chocolate, because they don’t meet the minimum cacao requirement. You can see this with other processed foods, as well. The companies aren’t trying to be trendy or cute, they’re complying with regulations.
wirelesswire@lemmy.zipto Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•What were the 4-square homebew rules when you were growing up?English6·18 days agolong game - for the first 3 hits, you weren’t allowed to cherry bomb
long game forevermore - can’t cherry bomb this round
no bobbling - bobbling is where you would repeatedly “juggle” the ball with one hand since holding the ball wasn’t allowed
nice and easy - nothing resembling a hard hit allowed
I’m sure there was more that I’m not remembering. It was up to the king to declare which special rules they wanted to play with that round before they served. “Long game forevermore and all that crap” was used to declare a standard set of special rules most of us would use, but you had to pay attention since it wasn’t always declared. Rule breaking was a regular thing, but would slide if it was done in a funny way or if the other 3 didn’t like the person who got out.
wirelesswire@lemmy.zipto Games@lemmy.world•The Digital Plague: When World of Warcraft Accidentally Simulated a Pandemic (my article!)English25·23 days agoThere was another actual event at the end of Burning Crusade with similar mechanics to this. Plagued grain barrels spawned in cities, and players who interacted with them would die and spawn as an infected zombie. They were able to attack other players and spread the infection in doing so. My memory is pretty hazy since it happened so long ago, but in Shattrath (a high level neutral city), the zombies weren’t able to be attacked (probably due to pvp flags being forced off within the city limits), but in the faction cities, they were. This led to mobs of zombies roving around in Shattrath, pouncing on any unfortunate player they could find, where players in the faction cities formed subjugation squads and would patrol around, exterminating any zombies in sight.
Something else interesting was zombies gained access to another language (Zombie), and since Shattrath accommodated both player factions, you were able to speak to zombified members of the opposing faction.

I also remember seeing shitheads do things like spitting on and licking items in stores for the social media shock.

I am well aware, but not caring what my food tasted like would make things much easier.
Some people don’t mind bland food or eating the same thing all the time. As someone trying to lose weight, I envy them.
Gunpla and similar plastic models.
This is pretty much me. If Linux and associated software like Proton were at their current state 10 years ago, I would’ve made the jump by now. At this point, I just can’t be bothered. I work in IT, so I already deal with computer stuff at work, and I really don’t want to tinker with my pc at home as well. I bought some extra storage a few months ago, partially in preparation to try Linux, but have yet to install it.

My favorite example of this is still in Silicon Valley, when the group was trying to calculate how long it would take to jerk off 800 men. I believe the study was actually conducted by some folks from Stanford University.

Skyrim.
I tried it for 25ish hours with around 30 mods, mostly QoL stuff with a few other tweaks thrown in. I don’t like 1st person melee combat (and the 3rd person camera sucks), so I went magic. I had a magic overhaul mod, but the best spell I found was just double fireball. Every time I tried other spells, I would think “this kinda works, I guess, or I could just kill them with double fireball.” Combat got pretty boring, since every engagement boiled down to double fireball until out of mana, then use bow and arrow until everything was dead.
Side note: I evidently was bitten by a vampire at some point and didn’t realize I had turned into one myself until several hours later when I received the message that my vampire powers had been fully realized. I was confused as to why guards kept asking me if I was sick and commenting on how I looked so pale.
I consider a shitpost any sort of stupid joke. Basically anything that’s deliberately not meant to be taken seriously.
