thermogel@lemmy.mlto Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•What would you pick to be reincarnated as AND WHY?3·7 days agoperegrine falcon is a nice pick!! i’d go for an octopus maybe? or a spider that knits awesome webs. one of those colombian hippos maybe
Yeah its difficult in that sense, also with Android’s notification service (Google Firebase Cloud Messaging). Theyre doing their best as of now. Unless they flashed a degoogled ROM.
Check out Shelter on Fdroid, it creates a 2nd profile for compartmentalizing apps.
Try deleting TikTok and trying Loops, the fediverse alternative.
i like Nobara (basically Fedora with Nvidia drivers out of the box). Compare the looks and workflow of Desktop Environments (Gnome, Kde, etc) to see which fits best for you. To install, watch a yt tutorial.
i know it lacks shows, and is owned by a holding company, but i use Letterboxd. My 🚬 cinephile friends are there, so its cool to see what we log. I read that the platform is trying to cover shows as well as movies, but it is still noticeably lacking shows.
fairphone and framework off the top of my head

telegram doesnt encrypt by default, its a hidden feature. i wouldnt be too sure about iMessage, i believe E2EE is a bare minimum for everyone.

if you could add Ublock origin it would be awesome

thermogel@lemmy.mlto Privacy@lemmy.ml•Does your family is also against your privacy means?9·5 months agoI have found that even when people are conscious of the “technocratic & surveillance” state of the world, they still dont change their habits. Just like “this sucks” but they dont bother on looking for alternatives.
Even when I tell them about E2EE services, or the fediverse, they’re like “that sounds awesome”, but they never try it. Once I had a friend try Pixelfed and they loved it! I was so happy hehe but it goes stale after a few days, since other friends didnt switch. But were both telling others to switch sometimes.
My family uses Life360 for safety or emergencies, and I managed to switch them over to Paralino. It was all working seamlessly until they suddenly decided they wanted to go back, for whatever reason. I don’t know what it was, they wouldnt say, but it frustrates me that they would prefer giving out all out location info in rreal time to a company that has had many breaches and has sold such data, compared to a small one that can’t even access such data, and its just a few bucks. Idunno.

Because they’re probably dealing with their version of surveillance from CCP. It would be interesting to hear conversations from privacy experts and advocates over there, and share experiences of what we’re all dealing with.
