infectoid@lemmy.worldto Today I Learned@lemmy.world•Agriculture uses 98% of humanity's land usageEnglish18·3 months agoYep for sure. The food grown to feed livestock (6M2 km) seems like it’s just feeding humans with extra steps. If you cut that out and feed humans directly. You’d still have livestock on grazing pad (32M2 km), just not the whole feedlot situation.
infectoid@lemmy.worldto Today I Learned@lemmy.world•Agriculture uses 98% of humanity's land usageEnglish162·3 months agoThe big takeaway for me is that maybe we should cut down on animal protein and have more plant protein in our diets.
We feed livestock almost as much plant food as we do ourselves (6m2 km vs 8m2 km). Not to mention the space taken up for grazing uses most of our agricultural land.

My gut feel is that some, maybe even most of this can be worked in, but there is absolutely going to be shit going under the radar because it’s too hard, too confusing or out right contradictory.

Surely some drooler would have slip something out by now.
Impossible mince has entirely replaced beef in our pasta sauces and Mexican dishes. Soaks up the flavours around it well and has that familiar chew/bounce of minced beef. But it really can’t stand on its own. My mum even made some impossible meat pies for us and they were excellent.
As for the chicken substitutes in Australia, no real winners yet. Best we’ve had is rissoles that are 50% chicken.
