Plus almost all TVs can run without an internet connection too, which renders this concern somewhat null
bl4kers@lemmy.mlto Privacy@lemmy.ml•How much proof is there that smart tvs and phones listen to you?English5·21 days agoThere’s no need for uploading a constant audio feed or transcript (something that would be easy for researchers to detect in the network logs) to show you an advertisement like that.
Your phone knows all the things you wrote in the post, namely: your location, that you are physically with those friends, the wifi network, the search history of everyone there. Because of all that metadata, advertisers probably know you were playing a TTRPG, maybe even the specific one

Currently, police can search for information generated by any private Flock customer who has chosen to share information with law enforcement.
But “when the contract expires, that access ends,” Flock spokesperson Paris Lewbel wrote in an email.
Boo hoo. Let’s stop parroting their talking points

This has a ton of negative economic impacts that will be felt long after Trump is dead. And it’s liable to be exacerbated by severed international relationships and an increase in movement away from U.S. companies

I’m not sure the people who think they can find love in AI are the people who fall in love with AI. Same principle with cults-- virtually no one joins a cult knowingly. They’re just looking for connection and find it in a weird place
The idea of not “bothering the rest of us” seems inherently flawed. They are someone’s offspring, sibling, neighbor, coworker, a voter, etc. Having folks in our communities be so isolated isn’t healthy for a functioning society

Yeah it’s like any other music streaming app
I just assume most people won’t have an easy way to tunnel into their home network if they’re out to do streaming
I’m thoroughly confused now. Are you using the Jellyfin app (or something hooked up to your server) on your phone or nah? If not, I would consider that a Syncthing-only setup, since it could be pointed to Plex or any files. No judgment and it’s fine if you disagree. I’m just curious what tools people use and how they use them
bl4kers@lemmy.mlto Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•Leaving spotify, offline music options?English1·2 months agoThe Jellyfin app already supports local downloads. And if using Syncthing to get your files locally you can use any player

People live in places that are pleasant. It’s why Silicon Valley billionaires threatening to leave California over the proposed wealth tax is ridiculous. It would take decades to move the industry and talent pool out of there. Plus the tax is based on where they lived on Jan. 1, 2026, so they’re already on the hook.
