atkion@sh.itjust.worksto Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•What media has your favorite worldbuilding?English8·1 year agoAgreed - Brandon may not be the best at certain facets of writing, but he’s nothing short of virtuosic when it comes to worldbuilding. The cosmere is a masterwork in this regard.
I use chopsticks with popcorn
I realize this has terrible ramifications and indicates the depth of our irresponsibility etc etc, but this is one of the few silver linings to our current dilemma and I will fully allow myself to enjoy it

atkion@sh.itjust.worksto Patient Gamers@sh.itjust.works•Patient gamers, what are your favorite OSTs?English6·1 year agoOnes I haven’t seen in this thread yet:
Cuphead, Cave Story, Celeste, Dredge, Furi, Katamari Damacy (and others in the series), Peggle, Super Mario Galaxy
atkion@sh.itjust.worksto PC Gaming@lemmy.ca•Oof: Years before Steam, a Blizzard engineer wanted to turn Battle.net into a third-party game store, but was reportedly turned down14·2 years agoThis is true, but it’s not the only factor. Staying private allows a company to not be predatory, but it definitely does not guarantee it - it simply allows the executives to choose. It’s the combination of Valve being private and Gaben always staying true to his values despite his incredible wealth that gave us Steam in its current form.
I’ve known plenty of private companies that were as shitty as a public one, or more. Quality executives are vanishingly rare, particularly at this level of company value.
atkion@sh.itjust.worksto Funny: Home of the Haha@lemmy.world•Modern wonders existEnglish3·2 years agoThe Sagrada Familia, yeah. It’s… pretty big, they’re hoping to finish it in the 2030s. (Construction started in the 1800s though, maybe there’s an even older one idk about?)
atkion@sh.itjust.worksto Palestine@lemmy.ml•The US Military that's entering Gaza to build a port thinks it is funny to play 'The Imperial March' from Star WarsEnglish3·2 years agoI mean, from an external perspective, that is actually pretty funny in a morbid, depressing sort of way. I can’t see how it’s funny from their view though, seems a bit too on the nose. Maybe they’re celebrating the extent to which they just don’t give a fuck?

In general maybe not, in these lemmy spaces absolutely.
I will be disappointed if it’s not this guy
atkion@sh.itjust.worksto Pulse of Truth@infosec.pub•The Hacker Who Hunts Video Game Speedrunning CheatersEnglish4·2 years agoIt used to be incredibly common, but popular speedrunning games now have mod teams monitoring the leaderboards, sometimes going to truly unbelieveable amounts of effort to prove a run was or was not cheated. It’s actually pretty difficult to get away with it these days.

atkion@sh.itjust.worksto Gaming@lemmy.ml•What EldenSoulsBorne boss gave you an embarrassing amount of trouble?English1·2 years agoI was literally going to say crystal sage before I read your full post. I’ve never once gotten through a DS3 run without dying several times to him, and I’ve probably played a dozen or more times. Even with the throwing knives cheese.
atkion@sh.itjust.worksto Atheist Memes@lemmy.world•You don't have to fear these thingsEnglish6·2 years agoYeah, that one’s a Mormon thing. The rule only covers coffee and tea if you want to be pedantic about it, though there are many ‘spirit of the law’ type people who avoid caffeine entirely.
