@scruiser @BlueMonday1984 funny how they mock left wingers for «that wasn’t real communism» and then come up with the same excuses for liberal democracies and capitalism whenever one points out all the shit that came out of that. It’s really ALWAYS projection with them, isn’t it?

Oblomov@sociale.networkto GOG@lemmy.world•Why is GOG not as succesful as a Gaming Alternative?2·2 months agoArguably it’s because they can’t ensure the same (or higher) level of compatibility with newer versions of dosbox or scummvm (e.g. because of regressions). It’s still possible to use newer dosbox/scummvm with the games they provide by hacking around the launcher and/or just using the installation elseways, but it would be nice if this was supported at the installation package level.

Oblomov@sociale.networkto GOG@lemmy.world•GOG's new owner says Steam is winning due to ease of use, not quality, while criticizing the platform for releasing hundreds of games daily that are "not super high quality"4·3 months ago@Jarix oh, that, yeah. GOG is currently in a decent position because it has a launcher, but it’s basically a “thin layer” on top of APIs that allow anyone to download the installers (plus some services to manage those installations). As long as the underlying APIs remain accessible, it’s fine. (This is e.g. how lgogdownloader allows one to archive their whole library for offline installation.)

@swelter_spark @PiraHxCx no chance to play them with him? «I got a bunch of adult games for free when there was that whole Credit Cards vs adult games creator kerfuffle, wanna try them out with me?»

Oblomov@sociale.networkto Firefox@fedia.io•What is your favorite browser? Feel free to share why.1·1 year ago@jon@vivaldi.net I was a long-time Opera aficionado, only dropped it when they switched to WebKit (and then Blink) and the last Presto-based version became obsolete (TLS-wise, mostly). Switched to Firefox, with which I’ll stick as long as it maintains Gecko. Would love to jump to Vivaldi, but we need more independent rendering engines for the health of the web.

Oblomov@sociale.networkto Gaming@beehaw.org•Weekly “What are you playing” Thread || Week of April 21st1·2 years agoI only just found this but, in case you’re still testing things, here’s a couple of hints:
- it is possible to navigate in the dark;
- it is possible to climb even without stairs, so you can usually get out of subterranean pits even tool-less; it’s extremely rare to get into an actual “save-ender” situation
- as your tech level progresses, you’ll discover ways to automate most things;
- do focus on getting ore; there are hints in the rock to where it may be.

@scruiser there’s no winning with these guys. I had a similar experience with someone bringing up South Korea as an example of country that brought itself up by its bootstraps via unfettered capitalism because “planned economy doesn’t work”, so I had to remind them that SK was a military dictatorship who implemented 5-year plans leveraging billions of foreign investment that was given to it by US to prop it up against NK.
