Laser is an acronym for Light Amplification by Stimulated Emission of Radiation, and yet we all pronounce it “lay-Zer” not “lay-Ser”

This is a blatant money grab by a corrupt government.

When it’s clearly only increased taxes for the very wealthy. It’s like their bias against democrats takes away reading comprehension.

The supreme court just ruled that presidents have immunity from criminal prosecution for anything that can be considered “official acts.” So nixon wouldn’t have to worry if he were president now.

polyamory is an alternative to monogamy, so if you think a community about monogamous relationships should be NSFW then I guess, but I think that might be a stretch.
I want this poster.

notacat@mander.xyzto Not The Onion@lemmy.world•Wall Street Journal complains about workers using their sick daysEnglish152·2 years agoDid you just say the government pays regular citizens?? Where I come from that’s communism. Governments are only supposed to pay corporations like the good lord intended.
notacat@mander.xyzto Climate@slrpnk.net•The 15-minute city: It's a global climate solution — if it can get past conspiracy theories and NIMBYs2·3 years agoWell technically, as demonstrated by some proposed anti-abortion laws, the right to travel is not enumerated and thus, according to some republicans, does not exist. Just like the right to privacy. So if you are already drinking the koolaid, travel restrictions are possible.

For me they help me be more ok slowing down and starting small and not feeling so overwhelmed from all there is to do. So I’m like 50% likely to do something on meds and 20% off.

Now They’re Scrambling to Protect That Power.English11·3 years agoI read the article partly to see if the Karen-haircut judge was part of the gerrymandering, but no, she is not. Janet is a newly elected justice the republicans want to impeach for daring to criticize their ridiculous maps:
““They are rigged, period. Coming right out and saying that. I don’t think you could sell to any reasonable person that the maps are fair,” she said at a January candidates forum.”

notacat@mander.xyzto World News@lemmy.ml•China lab suspected of Covid leak stripped of US funding for violating biosafety rules101·3 years agoWhat possible evidence would there be to “prove” this negative? Maybe if we happened to find the exact source animal to test? Since that is unlikely, all we have to go is the genome of the virus compared to similar viruses in the wild and similar viruses in published research. And that wouldn’t be proof enough for you.
notacat@mander.xyzto World News@lemmy.ml•China lab suspected of Covid leak stripped of US funding for violating biosafety rules13·3 years agoI am somehow still surprised at how many of my intelligent, educated healthcare coworkers believe in the purposeful bio weapon theory despite there being no evidence of human-made genetic manipulation. We can analyze whole genomes now, there’s no need to make shit up.
notacat@mander.xyzto World News@lemmy.ml•China lab suspected of Covid leak stripped of US funding for violating biosafety rules8·3 years ago“Gain of function” is an extremely broad category that is an absolutely necessary part of molecular biology research.
I really would have liked being a fly on the wall watching a firee console the firer.
And clearly based on the intense response you win the controversial statement award
