I could honestly see this backfiring in a really funny way. Not only will they actually try harder to get them to learn to read, but in my experience kids tend to hate books they are forced to read. In the setting that is church there’s more of a peer pressure from all the other kids and adults to learn the bible. In high-school/middle-school there’s peer pressure to not read the books you are supposed to read save for those that love reading. The only books I remember reading from those years are the ones I chose to read while the ones I was told to read had left my brain almost entirely by my mid 20s

(Well, before the bots came in). On the other hand you have people like Meghan Kelly saying they’d still vote for him even if he dropped a nuke.
This genuinely does feel different now that Trump is playing with the idea of nuclear weapons and potential M.A.D. scenarios. This isn’t just about immigrants or regime changes or owning the libs, this is threating to genocide an entire country for a war nobody wanted. Believe it or not, most Republicans still have a conscience even if they are cowards.

What I mean is that if nobody in our government or military stops Trump from going nuclear in Iran there is no going back. If he isn’t stopped until after it happens, nobody in the entire world will trust Americans ever again and we will all be hated (even more than we already are). This is the single biggest avoidable threat to national security that has ever existed. It’s already the case that nobody outside the US cares if you are one of the “good ones” or not. If this fuck-face does what we all think he wants to do, the US and its citizens will be internationally considered a threat to everyone elses national security and will be cut off from the rest of the world indefinitely.
Nobody will give a shit who you voted for or which protests you went to or not, everyone will hate us and rightfully so. If Trump goes nuclear in Iran it’ll be the end of the American Empire basically overnight.
Friend if mine was like “I’ve been sick for weeks and I can’t fucking taste anything!” And I was like, yeah that’s called COVID bro lol
He was one of the non-believers so I find it cathartic

TommySoda@lemmy.worldto No Stupid Questions@lemmy.world•Does anyone else feel like websites nowadays feels very broken compared to apps? Like you try to do transactions on the mobile site (eg: ordering food), and payments mysteriously declines...24·7 days agoI’m gonna have to agree. It’s been a growing trend for years and most sites don’t even give you half the features on the site.
The other day I went to place an order for a pizza on the Dominos website on my phone and it would crash every time I tried. Went to my PC and it worked perfectly first try. I’m not downloading your fucking app when I only eat your food, like, once a year.

Only after I looked at the patch notes was I like “oh yeah, that was a little different” and went on to play a couple more runs.
All I’m saying is, in general, most people probably do not even notice. I used to play Overwatch with my friends and would never pay attention to balance updates. I’d be playing my favorite heroes and my friends would say halfway through the game “oh yeah, did you see [blank] got nerfed?” And unless the update was dramatically different I’d literally be like “really? Seems fine to me.”
Although, some of the main enemies should really be elites. But I’m sure we all agree on that.

If they did decide to end it they’d want it to be rock solid and hard to argue against and not whatever the hell they were presented here.
Imagine if the dev actually did this. They’d probably make millions just from those that added it to their wishlist hoping it’ll go on sale someday and completely forgot about it. I know because I was one if those dudes but eventually caved after I found out it’ll never go on sale.

TommySoda@lemmy.worldto Technology@lemmy.world•Sony Shuts Down Nearly Its Entire Memory Card Business Due to SSD ShortageEnglish1822·13 days agoThis isn’t sustainable. Almost all of our infrastructure runs on computers and eventually it will reach a point where you have a computer in charge of vital infrastructure that won’t be able to buy replacement part and it’ll just fail.

TommySoda@lemmy.worldto Privacy@lemmy.ml•Spez (Reddit CEO) just put out an announcement talking about how they'll verify bots vs humans. Get ready for a wave of new users into the Fediverse pretty soon!2·13 days agoIt’s definitely hard to tell someone’s tone when it comes to text so i appreciate you mentioning that. I understand the confusion as I wasnt very clear in what I was talking about which is 100% my fault. I went a little off the handle and got defensive, I will admit, and I apologize for that.
I guess the point that I was trying to make is more so that we have many different ways to do it for years I was talking about things like captchas. The problem, in my opinion, is that captchas didn’t evolve with the Internet. We’ve been picking traffic lights for over a decade now and it’s obviously not working anymore. My whole idea with drawing pictures was to make it more human centric than clicking a bunch if buttons. Something that can take in the raw input of a mouse cursor or touchscreen and determine whether or not the movements are “human”. Like a fingerprint that doesn’t identify you. If it sees too many predictable patterns it flags it. I just feel like there’s a lot of wasted potential in older human verification systems that have stagnated. We’ve just accepted bots as the norm online and the company’s in charge aren’t doing a damn thing besides saying they’ll do something with no action.
He’ll never get the actual Nobel Peace Prize and I’m sure, deep down, that absolutely infuriates him. Like when one kid is jealous of another kids toy so the parent buys another one just for them but the kid doesn’t want it because they wanted that one. And the fact that he’s probably absolutely livid every time someone brings up Obama’s peace prize is hilarious to me.
