The fact it’s satire doesn’t make it untrue, and we have plenty of statistics to back it up, but it seems the only thing Americans like more than complaining about their broken system is insisting that any change at all would make it worse.

GreyEyedGhost@piefed.cato No Stupid Questions@lemmy.world•Samsung is shutting down SMS/RCS — is the a good alternative to Google's messenger?English9·3 days agoThere is Fossify Messages. A caveat. Fossify is a fork of some apps that were abandoned or had the license changed. After that happened, they were unmaintained for a while. That appears to have changed somewhat, but it has been 2 months since the last update on F-Droid.

I don’t agree with his reasons, but he has the right to believe what he does and write how he does. I don’t begrudge him making people spend additional mental effort reading it, and most days it doesn’t bother me. I don’t have the energy today, so stopped reading after the first thorn.

If that’s all the info you have.
GreyEyedGhost@piefed.cato Canada@lemmy.ca•Bogus maple syrup from Quebec producer found on grocery store shelvesEnglish7·7 days agoThey do spot checks now, sometimes. And they do regular checks on large containers. Do you think those containers are shipped to them? Who do you think is paying for those inspections now? How do you think this is any different for inspections for lettuce or other produce?
Absolutely, large containers are easier to check. And yes, it would be logistically impossible to check every batch that was canned and sold like these were. But regular, unannounced spot checks of the canned product would mean that every time you adulterated the product would be a risk to be caught, and you can guarantee that if every can they bought in this investigation was adulterated that it wasn’t a one-off thing.
GreyEyedGhost@piefed.cato Canada@lemmy.ca•Bogus maple syrup from Quebec producer found on grocery store shelvesEnglish15·7 days agoBut ACER doesn’t inspect syrup in cans that are sold directly by producers to grocery stores, which is how Bourdeau sells his syrup.
“Our mandate is to analyze large containers,” Clermont said.
“We don’t classify maple syrup from a producer who sells directly to a supermarket.”
Lagacé said such syrup can be subject to random spot checks, but not systematically tested like syrup in bulk.
Nice loophole. Maybe they should start.

GreyEyedGhost@piefed.cato Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•Do women also have post nut clarity tooEnglish4·8 days agoIve always thought of it as more of a shot against the man than the woman. In your example, the man slept with someone he normally wouldn’t, for whatever reason, and only recognized that fact once his desire for sex was satisfied. The woman didn’t change in the entire situation.
Likewise, I’d say my choices in this area were poor, but had nothing to do with looks.

For me, I have far too many to count at this point, but one that comes to mind was a few seconds after the roller coaster ride when I decided I shouldn’t have had that sub minutes before the ride. I got to see that sub again almost immediately after that.

GreyEyedGhost@piefed.cato No Stupid Questions@lemmy.world•How would you rate your country's constitution?English3·9 days agoThe notwithstanding clause can’t negate any part of the constitution, but that is a distinction without a difference. That said, it does make it easy to call any politician who uses it a slimy piece of shit and have something to refer to for why you believe that. Not that I would ever call a politician a slimy piece of shit - our slander laws in Canada do not have a clause to use the truth as a defense.
