Nonetheless, the human brain is a better prediction engine.

Grail (capitalised)@aussie.zoneOPto Showerthoughts@lemmy.world•There are so many trans babiesEnglish419·4 months agoWell there are infinite possible genders and thousands already in use, so I think with 2,880-20,160 trans people born each day, the odds are very high.
If by “access” you mean “talk to fellow survivors” and “ask for advice or support”, no.
Reddit has support subreddits for people struggling with mental illness or minority struggles. These are issues kids face, and the government is denying their access, while giving big tech companies excuses to spy on adults.

Grail (capitalised)@aussie.zoneto Australia@aussie.zone•E-bike rules in Australia will soon change with possible ban on sale of bikes faster than 25km/hEnglish2·4 months agoThey’re banning it based on wattage? That’s ridiculous. That means a 50kg person can go three times as fast as a 150kg person.
Video game is right. What we experience is a mental construct, and it can be reprogrammed. It already has been reprogrammed by religious groups and media conglomerates to control you. We need to take back that power and become masters of our own universes.

No, they're hyperlayersEnglish2·5 months agoMy favourite Asimov story is The Gods Themselves, which uses the membrane theory. Earth comes into contact with the people of another hyperlayer with different laws of physics, and they use the differences in the laws of physics to create free energy.

Grail (capitalised)@aussie.zoneto Australia@aussie.zone•Why the cost of living crisis will not get betterEnglish1·7 months agoTo be fair, if you’re already on unemployment, queuing up for bread isn’t much of a change. It’s the middle class who do have to sell of their homes that lose the most. If you already have nothing to lose, then nothing changes.
Grail (capitalised)@aussie.zoneto Australia@aussie.zone•Why the cost of living crisis will not get betterEnglish112·7 months agoWages benefit workers. Inflation is affected by everyone’s wealth. When the rich make record profits, inflation rises and our wages fall in value. When wages are increased, inflation rises and rich people’s hoards fall in value. The key to successful economic policy is to raise wages faster than rich people’s hoards can grow, thus making wage growth the primary driver of inflation. When hoard growth is the primary driver of inflation, we get our current situation.

Grail (capitalised)@aussie.zoneto No Stupid Questions@lemmy.world•Scifi question about time travel:English2·9 months agoWell, “no objective reality” is a lot more accurate to the truth of the world than any alternative. It might not be as narratively satisfying as a story where objective truths exist, but I suspect the human desire for objective truth is a cultural value that would be in our best interest to shed.
Grail (capitalised)@aussie.zoneto No Stupid Questions@lemmy.world•Scifi question about time travel:English2·9 months agoIt’s called a looped timeline pair. Timeline 1 creates timeline 2, and timeline 2 creates timeline 1. Both timelines exist on an alternating basis. It’s one of the results of the bootstrap paradox. When people think of the bootstrap paradox, they usually think of single looped timelines. Those appear in media all the time. Harry Potter, Gargoyles, etc. But an unstable set of timelines can also stabilise across two, three, or more timelines instead of just one.
Out of the infinite versions of you in the multiverse, half win the lottery and half don’t. Which one your consciousness inhabits is pure luck.
That’s because anthropologically, realism is pretty new. The idea of a single objective truth to encapsulate the whole universe was an idea invented by the Romans. And everyone knows what the Romans did to religious diversity in Europe. Most cultures in the history of the world have to some degree acknowledged the subjectivity of perception and the self-contradictory nature of “objective truth”.
I’m part of a political movement that opposes Roman/Abrahamic style realism. We believe it’s the cause of the crusades, slavery, the nakba, the holocaust, the witch trials, and all of history’s other greatest atrocities. True freedom will only come when we are free to perceive differently than those in authority. To live in a different perceptual universe.
Only three at one time, though
