The picture is too low res to tell for sure, but I believe what you are actually seeing is a rod that comes out of the base, runs behind the sword, and has a cradle at the top to hold the sword just under the guard (the two shiny bits of metal).

Daviedavo@lemmy.worldto Mildly Infuriating@lemmy.world•Starbucks wants a Bachelor's degree for a baristaEnglish11·1 year agoYES- you just nailed it. That was my entire point… their degree is worthless at Starbucks. OP was upset that Starbucks wanted a degree to work there but, as you said, it doesn’t matter. They (Starbucks) have an arbitrary barrier to entry with a piece of paper (degree) saying you are somebody now… only they can’t get the little things right. You know, the little things such as getting my order right… fat lot of good the degree did them if they can’t even serve me the coffee I asked for… you know, their job.
Daviedavo@lemmy.worldto Mildly Infuriating@lemmy.world•Starbucks wants a Bachelor's degree for a baristaEnglish4·1 year agoI’m sorry, what? I am actually asking you a sincere question. If I order a grande nitro cold brew, add a splash of sweet cream, what would you think I was ordering? No, really, I am truly asking you what beverage you would then hand me after I pay you. It has been my experience that I will get a cup of cream with a splash of coffee. Is that what you think I should receive from my order? Are my standards too high that I think a trained basista can provide me with my actual order? Should I just take what they give me, regardless of what I wanted, and just pay them because they “tried”?
Daviedavo@lemmy.worldto Mildly Infuriating@lemmy.world•Starbucks wants a Bachelor's degree for a baristaEnglish2·1 year agoWell ya, I agree with you… but my reply was to OP that said Starbucks required college degrees for baristas and I was amazed that was the case. I mean, when I order a coffee with a “splash” of something else - anything else - added to the coffee, then I would imagine that any rational person, degree or not, would think that I wanted less of the additive than the base. BUT that is not my WEEKLY experience at Starbucks. This is from 3 different locations - not one store. Without fail I will have them redo my nitro cold brew so it actually tastes like coffee not cream. WITHOUT FAIL… I understand that you may have a different experience than I have but I can’t speak for you. I am recording my experience and questioning why a degree is needed as as the supposition by OP.
Daviedavo@lemmy.worldto Mildly Infuriating@lemmy.world•Starbucks wants a Bachelor's degree for a baristaEnglish5·1 year agoBut… if OP’s assertion is true, how could they possibly obtain a degree in ANYTHING without paying attention? I mean, Mc Donalds drive through minimum wage non educated employees get my order right and these Starbucks “college grads” can’t figure it out? Well, I guess that’s why they work for Starbucks rather than their degree field?
Daviedavo@lemmy.worldto Mildly Infuriating@lemmy.world•Starbucks wants a Bachelor's degree for a baristaEnglish93·1 year agoThis can’t possibly be true, otherwise the college grads that work there do not understand basic English… I order a grande nitro cold brew, add a dash of sweet cream. What do they try to give me? A milk white beverage that is at least half sweet cream. WTF? I want coffee with a splash of cream, not cream with a splash of coffee… Doesn’t anyone like coffee flavored coffee anymore or is it all candy and sugar now? If they really are college grads then thank god they aren’t engineers or doctors.
Does iFixit not sell that battery? If they do then I would recommend buying from them even if it is a little more expensive than Amazon so you help support right to repair legislation, not to mention supporting their repair guides, tear downs, etc. that benefit all of us.
Daviedavo@lemmy.worldto Lemmy Shitpost@lemmy.world•I just saw this in a supermarket and I am now very upset and angry at whoever thought of such a thing and you need to feel my pain.241·1 year agoLol - so, flavored vapes are “targeted at children” even though smoking/vaping has always been illegal for minors. BUT putting alcohol in a classic children’s drink isn’t marketing to children… BTW, I’m not against vaping or this drink, just find it funny that lawmakers seem to think that flavored products are intended for children and adults can’t possibly like them. Real adults just drink straight vodka or smoke filterless cigarettes apparently.
Daviedavo@lemmy.worldto Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•How much do you pay for your phone plan, what do you get in return and in which country?1·1 year agoYa, US dollar is 0.79 GBP. So my $40 plan would “only” be £31. Still much more expensive for sure though.
Daviedavo@lemmy.worldto Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•How much do you pay for your phone plan, what do you get in return and in which country?2·1 year agoUSA - AT&T Prepaid. $40 per month. Unlimited talk and text in/to the US, Mexico and Canada. “Unlimited” data BUT after 15GB 5G data, speed is reduced to 3G(?) speeds so email, messaging and other apps using light data still work OK but browsing is verrrrry slow - forget about streaming at that point (it also includes roll-over of unused data from previous month). I don’t usually go over the 15GB though due to wi-fi available most places I am usually at.
Daviedavo@lemmy.worldto You Should Know@lemmy.world•Amazon Black Friday: 80 unions and organizations across 20 countries to demonstrate against management policies9·1 year agoYa, for the most part I try not to buy from Amazon and instead mostly buy local, mom & pop stores if there is an option, for what I am looking for. BUT… Amazon has such a huge catalog that sometimes I can only find what I am needing there so I do occasionally buy from them. They also have a very good return policy if the item wasn’t what I thought it was, arrived damaged, or even if I just changed my mind. I have ordered things from other online retailers when I couldn’t find something local and then had to go through hoops to return products damaged in shipping or missing parts, etc. and have been stuck with a few things I couldn’t return. I would also like to know of better alternatives to Amazon in these instances.

Daviedavo@lemmy.worldto No Stupid Questions@lemmy.ca•Can anyone tell me what the 2nd graph down is showing for the tinted area?11·1 year agoLol - ya, location makes a difference. I am now also curious what that is supposed to represent. I looked on their website but since I don’t have an account all I could see was mostly marketing and sales info. There was a FAQ about that feature with a youtube video that might explain the data points but the video opened with a 2.5 minute ad so I bailed… can’t believe there are 3rd party adds on a video from a company’s help section! The iOS app store lists the rut map/forecast as a feature but that’s it. The app does look pretty sweet though - I’ll have to tell my brother about it.

Took me a bit of time to think it through - I got lucky and had four letters in the first 2 turns but struggled to put them all together with a fifth.
Daviedavo@lemmy.worldto No Stupid Questions@lemmy.ca•Can anyone tell me what the 2nd graph down is showing for the tinted area?1·1 year agoYa, that one isn’t quite clearly labeled. The rest of the charts and data points make sense. Since it looks like this is a 5 day forecast I am guessing that the shaded green area is the historical average high/low temperatures for that date/time wherever this is in the world. The forecast is saying that the temp is expected to be 49°F on 11/1 at 2:07pm which is 9°F lower than the historical average so there looks like there will be a lesser chance of spotting deer according to the top graph. I guess? It would help to see the source page for context/additional info.

🔵🔵🔵🔵Ya, I got this one very quickly also. I think it was more straightforward /easier than many of the other ones lately.
I have had a cell phone since 1991. Same phone number since then even. Of course, back then a cell phone was just a phone… that you used to make phone calls. That was it. Texting wasn’t a thing yet and wouldn’t be in widespread use for a few years. Apps on a handheld device was still science fiction.
