This make me sad, English major or otherwise. I mean, you can look up at the moon and see when the far side is at least partially illuminated.

When does it stop feeling like I'm dying?1·11 hours agoI’m in my early 60s and went from walking to jogging a couple years ago. I did it differently than you. My usual walk was about two miles, and I just started jogging the portion I could and walking the rest. At first, my jogging was only a couple blocks, but as I kept doing it, I got to be able to go further, a little at a time. My goal was really just to keep my heart rate up for 20 to 30 minutes and get some cardio.
So I’m there now. I jog a couple miles every other day. Takes me about 25 minutes, so I’m not breaking any speed records, but my heart rate is between 150 and 170 for much of it, so I feel like I’m meeting my goal.

With birds, it really depends on the type. I had a cockatiel, and they aren’t especially noisy. Mine mostly just made noise if she wanted attention and she could hear me in the other room.
Sadly she died the day before yesterday. She was completely normal the day before that, but when I uncovered her cage that morning she seemed much more listless than normal. Decided to hang out with her after I got dressed and stuff, and when I went to get her she was dead at the bottom of the cage. She was 17, so likely just age related issues, but very sad.

AFK BRB Chocolate (CA version)@lemmy.cato Technology@lemmy.world•Someone finally did it: a high-end TV with a DisplayPort connection actually is coming this year, including 4K 180Hz supportEnglish2·3 days agoI’m an old guy with a CS degree. I watched the Internet and the web come into existence. I had so much excitement and hope for it. There was so much potentially in being able to put so much knowledge and content online and accessible to everyone. To have applications you could run from a common interface. I thought it would be so glorious.
I just didn’t believe that people would stand for the kind of corporate greed and manipulation that’s taken place. It’s one of the saddest things ever.
I’ve always really liked this one

It’s done for surveillance capitalism, and it’s done for control.
That was my whole point. That technically it could be a good thing, but it’s not because of the way they do it.

AFK BRB Chocolate (CA version)@lemmy.cato Mildly Interesting@lemmy.world•The contents of a jar of Nutella22·3 days agoI’m telling about the kind of peanut butter most people buy. For instance, according to the Skippy peanut butter site, two tablespoons of Skippy has 4g of added sugar, which is about a teaspoon. It’s not Nutella levels for sure, but it’s still a lot.
