Yeah it is one of my biggest pet peeves when people say capitalism drives innovation. Like, it does help spread technology, and it can cause tech to be refined quickly (e.g. the smartphone), but it is absolutely not what has driven the vast majority of innovation. People just want to solve problems and fiddle with things they find interesting, not make bucketloads of money.

The argument that it costs to maintain a home blah blah is BS - if it wasn’t profitable then the landlords sell it. They’re not being charitable. They make a profit and it comes out of poor people’s wages.

A computer is many orders of magnitude more intricate, technologically advanced, etc. A modern computer chip requires incredibly complex 3D labyrinths of different materials that have walls that are nanometers thick.

“The market” doesn’t operate like you get taught as a child. The vast majority of economic decisions are made by those in power to ensure they stay in power. It makes little sense for a business person to cannabalise their own industry. They have vertically integrated and are invested in the supply chain from start to finish, and there’s no benefit to them for things to change. It’s far easier to just impede competitors than change the course of behemoth corporations.

I have no problems with anything you say - as a vegetarian, Id also like to be able to distinguish between products and ensure Im getting plant based stuff.

However, you should keep in mind that this is not the actual intention of the meat industry pushing for this. Theyre just trying to fuck with the competition.
