Markie84@feddit.orgto Europe@feddit.org•German soccer federation official wants World Cup boycott considered because of TrumpEnglish23·3 months agoAs if. The DFB and football officials in general have long since lost their backbone and are now only interested in money. FIFA would probably sue the DFB/UEFA (whatever) for billions in damages.
If this sport were still about decency and morality, the bald guy would have been gone long ago and they wouldn’t have gone to Qatar. There was a lot of talk beforehand about “how it’s not really compatible with our values”. But they all went there anyway, enjoyed their lives in the sun and then didn’t say another word about it. Just like hypocrites do.
As a former season ticket holder, I turned my back on the sport completely years ago. One reason for this was the people who run the sport. And every time I read something like this, I’m glad I did.

Dann sind evtl. die Gesetze dämlich.

Markie84@feddit.orgto Europe@feddit.org•Germany Turns to U.S. Playbook: Deportations Target Gaza War ProtestersEnglish66·1 year agoDemanded by whom exactly
Many people from **all **political spectrum, especially after attacks like the one just before the last general election.
Markie84@feddit.orgto Europe@feddit.org•Germany Turns to U.S. Playbook: Deportations Target Gaza War ProtestersEnglish1119·1 year agoI have inserted the sentence again because you apparently only read the last part and had overlooked the part about the building occupation and damage to property.
Okay clearly you are not even interested whether the students were guilty.
You may be surprised, but** I** don’t make the laws.
And I fail to see how it makes it any better that Germany is deporting people demonstrating against genocide
Then you should read the article again. Because almost 50% of the article consists of explaining what these 4 people are accused of and are - apparently - NOT simply protesting.
Markie84@feddit.orgto Europe@feddit.org•Germany Turns to U.S. Playbook: Deportations Target Gaza War ProtestersEnglish1724·1 year agoYes, i have:
Under German migration law, authorities don’t need a criminal conviction to issue a deportation order
The only event that tied the four cases together was the allegation that the protesters participated in the university occupation, which involved property damage, and alleged obstruction of an arrest
Some, but not all, of the allegations would correspond to criminal charges in Germany; almost none of them have been brought before a criminal court.
Two, for example, are accused of calling a police officer “fascist” — insulting an officer, which is a crime. Three are accused of demonstrating with groups chanting slogans like “From the river to the sea, Palestine Will be Free” — which was outlawed last year in Germany — and “free Palestine.” Authorities also claim all four shouted antisemitic or anti-Israel slogans, though none are specified.
Two are accused of grabbing an officers’ or another protesters’ arm in an attempt to stop arrests at the train station sit-in.
None of this sounds to me like 4 people who simply took part peacefully in a protest.
Markie84@feddit.orgto Europe@feddit.org•Germany Turns to U.S. Playbook: Deportations Target Gaza War ProtestersEnglish3826·1 year agoThe article is borderline. Because it suggests that the people would ONLY be deported because they protested. But, as it says in the article, they SHOULD be deported because they have committed criminal offences. And criminal offences are not just murders or rapes.
And yes, this is exactly what has been demanded for months: Foreign offenders should be deported more quickly and less ruthlessly. Especially if they come from safe countries. Here, for example, Ireland. The fact that these offences were committed in connection with protests doesn’t provide any protection, and I find it extremely sensational to even begin to compare this with what is happening in the USA.

Markie84@feddit.orgto Spaceflight@sh.itjust.works•The first flight of Isar Aerospace’s Spectrum rocket lasted just 40 secondsEnglish21·1 year agoThe headline is a bit misleading, as if this is a failure or there was an expectation that the rocket would NOT crash. On the contrary. NO space programme in the world has ever managed to ensure that the first test rocket did not crash. The flight time of 18 seconds is also significantly longer than the first SpaceX rocket, for example. The spokesperson from the company “Isar Aerospace” therefore also - rightly - described the launch as a “great success”.

Markie84@feddit.orgto Automotive Industry@discuss.tchncs.de•Tesla Dealers Claimed They Sold 8,653 Cars in 3 Days in Canada. Did They?English40·1 year agoIf we assume that the dealers did a 24 hour shift it means:
- 3 Days á 24 Hours = 72 hours
- 8653 Cars / 72 Hours = 120 cars per hour
- 120 / 60 = 2 cars per minute…
- So one car sold every 30 seconds.
If we assume normal 8 hours per day:
- 3 days á 8 Hours = 24 hours
- 8653 / 24 = 360 cars per hour
- 360 / 60 = 6 cars per minute.
- So one car sold every 10 seconds.
Without reading through the article: No, I’m pretty sure they didn’t sell that many cars. –
