Anthony (Tony) Coleman, also credited in Tammy as George Anthony, was a comics book artist who worked in the UK and the US. He was part of Wallace Wood’s comic books studio on Long Island, established in the mid 1960s, and also worked on T.H.U.N.D.E.R. Agents for Tower Comics in the USA in 1966.
In Britain, Coleman worked for TV Century 21, Lion, Victor, assorted DCT titles, and started his Tammy run in 1977. Like many new additions to the Tammy team at the time, his run began with Strange Stories, the first being On the Stroke of Midnight, 31 December 1977. His first Tammy serial was Betta to Lose in 1978. Following Betta, his Tammy work was prolific: serials, Strange Stories, complete stories and Tammy covers. The genres Coleman tackled in Tammy ranged from supernatural to humour, but perhaps his strongest points were animal stories and school stories. His Tammy run ended with Cassie’s Coach in 1984. Other IPC titles featuring Coleman artwork included Scream!, Action, and Battle Picture Weekly.
