PSX Story Jam #3

Every story has three parts. What will yours be?

Create a PSX-style game that tells a complete story using at least 3 distinct sequences.

Welcome to the PSX Story Jam #3.

A game jam focused on short narrative experiences inspired by the PlayStation 1 era.

Low-poly worlds. Retro textures. Strange atmospheres. Nostalgic, unsettling, experimental.

The only requirement: your game must feel complete.

***********************

> structure.requirements

Your game must include at least 3 distinct sequences:

  • [BEGINNING] — introduce the world
  • [MIDDLE] — something changes or escalates
  • [END] — a real conclusion

These can be levels, scenes, or moments — as long as they are clearly distinct.

> visual.style

PSX aesthetic is strongly encouraged:

  • Low poly models
  • Pixelated / compressed textures
  • Retro UI
  • PS1-era vibes (horror, weird, nostalgic)
  • VHS / glitch / analog effects

Horror is welcome, but not required.

> THEME: THE DELIVERY

****************************************

The theme will be revealed at the start of the jam.

It is here to guide your idea — not restrict it.

You are free to interpret it in any way.

Keep your scope small and focus on delivering a complete experience.

***********************

> rules.set

  • At least 3 sequences
  • Playable from start to finish
  • Must include a clear ending
  • Recommended playtime: < 10 minutes
  • Browser build is strongly encouraged (WebGL / playable on itch)
  • Any engine allowed
  • Solo or team

Your game does not need to be big — but it should feel complete.

***********************

> assets_and_ai.policy

You are allowed to use pre-made assets, as long as they are free or properly licensed.

AI-generated content is also allowed.

However, we strongly encourage participants to create as much as possible themselves, especially for key elements.

Please make sure you have the rights to use any assets included in your project.

***********************
