To celebrate Filipino American History Month, AAPI In Gaming invites everyone to create a game for Maglaro Jam, a game jam that honors Filipino and Fil-Am culture! Games are an incredible medium to learn about cultures and lifestyles of many people around the world! Learn a thing about Filipino culture that intrigued you? Showcase it in a game!

This is a casual, low-stress jam, taking place from October 11 8:00AM Pacific  - October 25 11:59PM Pacific (2 weeks).

There are no rankings and no prizes. We only ask that participants take the time to check out other submissions! Let’s celebrate FAHM together!

AAPI In Gaming is a community platform that amplifies the voices of the Asian American and Pacific Islander diaspora in the gaming industry, promotes cultural appreciation, and highlights representation in games and related content. Join our official Discord!

Following the jam, AAPIIG will highlight submissions through our Games Made By AAPI series on social media! We’ll reach out to participants starting October 29 to coordinate the opportunity! We will also catalog submissions to be formally included in our AAPI Game Directory, which focuses on highlighting games made by and for the AAPI diaspora.

  • Your game must take inspiration from Filipino or Filipino American culture. This can be any aspect of the culture, such as music, food, traditions, fashion, etc.
  • Games of any size or complexity, using any engine, are welcome. This includes tabletop or analog games!
  • Only games made during the jam duration will be accepted.
  • The use of GenAI in any capacity is prohibited. Assets utilized in your submission must be original creations, and/or assets that you collected and are allowed to use (from asset packs, creative commons, etc).
  • Games that violate the AAPIIG Community Rules and/or Discord Guidelines will not be accepted.
  • You may submit unfinished games/prototypes, as well as multi-release or spin-offs.
  • You may continue to update your game following the jam deadline.
  • You may submit to our itch.io FAHM Jam page OR the designated FAHM Jam Forum in our Discord server!

Because FAHM Jam takes place during the spookiest time of the year, you are welcome to incorporate an aspect of Filipino folklore into your game! Here are some resources to learn about aswang or shapeshifting monsters from Filipino folklore:

1. Do I need to be Filipino or Filipino-American to participate?

1a. No!

2. May I ideate or start planning for FAHM Jam before it begins?

2a. Yes! As long as you do not begin to create any formal assets prior to jam start, you may produce things such as outlines, sketches, and other foundational materials to support game development.

3. I’m worried that I may not make it to the submission deadline. Can I have an extension?

3a. We ask that all participants who need after the October 25 deadline, to submit their game through the designated Forum for FAHM Jam via our official Discord server by 11:59 PM Pacific Timezone on October 26. Any submissions submitted beyond this date will not qualify as part of the jam, but you are still welcome to share your submission in #self-promo on our Discord server!

4. I’ve never made a game before. How can I get help?

4a. Join our official Discord server to get support from experienced developers! We’d be happy to answer any game dev questions you have!

5. There’s a question I have that isn’t being answered here. Where can I ask?

5a. Any questions or concerns about FAHM Jam can be answered on our itch.io jam community forum or directly in our Discord server!
