The emotional game jam is a human challenge, and offers developers from all over the world the opportunity to create a unique experience around emotions.

This jam has another characteristic : it's organized by the L3Di University (part of UCO Laval), 25 rue du Mans, 53000 Laval, in France. It starts Tuesday February 3rd, 11 am CET (GMT+1) and will end 48 hours later on Thursday February 5th11 am CET (GMT+1).

Registration

Teams must be composed of between one and 5 people.

⚠ The jam is reserved for people over 18 years old (in case of in situ participation).

  • To register on site, you must fill out a Google Form (And then join us on Itch.io). The deadline is Monday, February 2nd. But please note that on site, there are limited places. So, the registration for the Game Jam on site will close when no more place will be available.
  • For external participants, simply register on this Itch.io page with your personal account, like every other Jam.

Practical On-site Informations

Remember to bring everything necessary for the conception of your game (Pen, Felt, Markers, Sticky, Sketchbook), as well as the equipment you will need depending on your speciality (Laptop, Graphic Tablet, Camera, etc). We provide no other equipment than computers (Minimum 2 per team) and an internet connection.

Throughout the competition coffee and tea will be freely available, remember to bring enough food for yourself to last throughout the game jam ! Don't forget your duvet, if you want to sleep on-site (There's no shower).

Each team will have to post their work in progress every 6 hours on the Itch.io forum

⚠ The themes of the Jam will be revealed on the Itch.io forum.

Rules

  • Each project elements (including music), has to be created during the Jam period. It's forbidden to use external assets.
  • You can use any tools and engines to create your game.
  • There are no restrictions about gameplay, graphics style and technologies (VR, Leapmotion, etc...). The only one is the foundation of the jam :
  • There's two themes during the Jam. The first is revealed at the beginning of the jam, on Tuesday at 11AM. The second one around 11AM on Wednesday, 24 hours after the first one. It's imperative to integrate both themes, narratively or mechanically, into your projet.
  • All teams must provide at the end of the Jam an executable file with a text file explaining how to install and use the video game. The file supplied must be compatible with a standard PC equipped with windows 7, 8 and 10, and a latest generation video card. A short abstract in a text file is needed too, as if possible in-game screens or GIF/Vidéo.

Proceedings during the on-site competition

  • Jammers show up at the venue at 10 am on Tuesday 4th, sign-in, and check they can connect to Wi-Fi. They then install their setup.

Prizes and Ranking

The jury, composed of video game professionals and members of L3Di school, will attribute at the jam's closing three awards :

Best Emotional Game.

Best Emotional Graphics.

Best Emotional Mechanics.

Each prize has a reward. If this is not the heart of the experience, it is a good way to reward the efforts of the great games. (Each member of the winning teams receives a reward).

- For the Best Emotional Game : 50€  Gift Card

- For the Best Emotional Graphics and Emotional Mechanics : 30€  Gift Card

Communication and rights

As soon as they take part in the competition, each entrant grants the Emotional Game Jam to use free of charge, in the context of the communication of the event, the name of the team and the game. In the same way everyone accepts the broadcast of their photographic and video image insofar as it is taken on the site, during the competition.

This regulation is subject to french law.

Participation in the Emotional Game Jam implies acceptance by each participant of the said regulations.
