Abandoned Ideas GameJam

We all have some brilliant idea that just got lost in time. This jam is your chance to bring it back to life. There are no prizes and no pressure here, feel free to join

The theme is "rob"

How It Works

Pick an Old Idea: Dig up an idea, prototype, code snippet, or mechanic you abandoned or put on hold in the past.

Adapt it to the Theme: Incorporate the official jam theme (to be announced at the start) into your old concept. Re-examine it, twist it, or give it a completely new direction!

Build and Submit: Create and upload a playable game within the jam timeframe.

Rules & Conditions

To keep things fair and fun for everyone, please follow these guidelines:

No Generative AI: The use of generative AI tools for assets, code, writing, or music is strictly prohibited. We want to see your creativity.

Asset Rights: You can use pre-made assets (art, audio, fonts), but you must have the legal right to use them (e.g., your own work, free-to-use public assets, or assets you've purchased licenses for). Credit the creators where necessary!

Any Engine, But Web Preferred: You can use any game engine you want (Godot, Unity, Unreal, Defold, etc.). However, we highly recommend providing a Web/Browser version of your game if possible. Games that can be played directly in the browser get significantly more plays and feedback because players don't have to download anything!

All rights remain entirely yours. You own everything you create; this jam is purely for encouragement, learning, and community fun.

All submissions must comply with the standard terms and conditions of Itch.io.

Note on using your old work: Since the theme is mandatory, you shouldn't just submit an old game as-is. However, using code, basic mechanics, or art from your original abandoned prototype is highly encouraged — that's the whole point of the jam!

Showcase Your Story (Recommended!)

Half the fun of this jam is seeing where these games came from! On your game's itch.io submission page you will be asked to fill out a few custom fields covering::

1. The Original Idea: What was the project originally supposed to be?

2. How Old?: How long has this idea been sitting in your metaphorical drawer (months, years)?

3. The Reimagining: How did you twist or rethink it to fit the newly announced theme?

Voting & Criteria Voting is open to  Submitters & Contributors only. To ensure every entry gets a fair share of love and feedback, you will need to rate a few random entries from the queue before free-voting unlocks. Entries will be rated based on:

Theme Interpretation: How well the theme was integrated.

Reimagining / Transformation: How creatively the old, abandoned idea was revived and transformed

Overall Enjoyment: How fun or engaging the final result is.

Theme: The theme will be announced right when the jam begins!
It will be chosen with random word generator
