This gown from Chanel’s Pre-Fall 2019 collection is directly inspired by the women’s kalasiris from Ancient Egypt. While it is quite a literal translation of traditional Egyptian dress, I appreciate the timelessness achieved by its simple, elegant color palette & clean silhouette. Following her attendance at the fashion show, critic Leandra Cohen praised the collection, noting, “…what is new is not always revolutionary…honoring…work...by bringing it back…[is] a way of moving forward.”
