tgis is so fucking funny to me. they accidentally Rock Lee’d a retired racehorse
imagine youre a fat horse and your new neighbour is a personal trainer
reminder that adhd medication isn’t a luxury or preference, but a lifesaving medication. a 10 year long study in the usa showed that, when properly medicated, the rate of car crashes people with adhd get into goes down significantly–men’s rate drops by 38%, and women’s by 42%. the med shortage, denial of meds by doctors, rising prices, and war on drugs has killed–with such a car dependent society, not driving frequently isn’t an option, which means we need better healthcare and need it now.
edit because i forgot to explain: short link is to an article by the washington post, it should be free to read
I’m pretty sure there’s also been a study that unmedicated ADHD increases the risk of developing dementia in old age. I’ll get back to yall when I find the study
Found it and here’s a Washington Post article if you don’t want to read a medical journal.
@icy-moons thank you for this incredibly important addition!!! People with adhd are almost 3 times as likely to get dementia, and the way to prevent that is stimulant medication–more people need to know this
Not to mention being properly treated and medicated for ADHD reduces the likelihood of developing an addiction or substance use disorder.
The articles below are free to access, they cite their sources if you wanna check out the studies themselves.
ADD-certified therapist here. These claims are ALL TRUE. I don’t have the link to hand but properly medicating ADHD also reduces anxiety and depression rates and I’ve seen it improve eating and sleep over the long haul, and improve aggression in young children.
“Why do you buy books when the library is right there?”
Because publishing houses will not continue printing paper books if libraries are their only customers.
Also, I like being able to read at my leisure and generally have books at hand.
#public libraries are good because they let people access books they might never otherwise read#private book ownership is good because it’s Yours#physical books are good because they last a long time and again it’s Yours#ebooks are good because you can fit a whole library into the physical space of a single book and they’re cheaper to produce#audiobooks are good because they’re accessible to people with eyesight or visual reading issues and leave your hands free#in conclusion: all books are good and people should enjoy them however and whenever they can#(lest it be misunderstood I agree with you completely OP I just also really like books in general and it got away from me)
YES. all books. every kind
I will occasionally see people bashing The Evils of Consumerism re:books - I have seen people saying things like “Well, I know is a bad habit of buying new books-”.
Profit margins in publishing are really thin. Even if I’m not reading it RIGHT NOW, I do want the publisher to keep publishing the series!
Libraries are great, but if you have the money to buy books it is also great to support the authors you like!
Sales determine what they publish in the future. If nobody buys it, they’re not going to make more of them.
also in twenty years time you’ll realise that your fave childhood author is a) now dead and b) their books have been out of print for years and c) they were actually pretty obscure and d) because of the above they’re no longer in many libraries and you can’t find your most favourite one of theirs ANYWHERE.
Buy books, if you can.
I think those fancomics where Calvin from Calvin and Hobbes is transgender are cute and fun but I also think it’s a deep misunderstanding of Calvin’s character to think he would transition into a heterosexual normie who goes to her high school reunion. That girl would have neopronouns and fang implants
Adult Calvin is a tattoo artist named Panthera who is the bassist in a terrible metal band called Captain Napalm and Hobbes helps do faer E injections
no dude it’s so cool how attached you are to that character who is singled out and ostracized due to the external monstrousness that clashes with their internal spark of humanity. and i love how drawn you are to themes of horror and love, nature versus nurture, otherness, isolation, and the abject. i bet you have normal feelings about your own personhood
Cafe at The Portland art museum has Rothko no. 5 cakes. Something intellectually meaty about seeing the painting in person, and then eating a cake copy. The complete experience. Full spectrum.
For those asking: the cake was good. I was worried it was gonna be gimmicky and low quality but nah it was straight up delicious. I think the colors were different berry flavors. Honestly the whole cafe was a highlight of the visit. Good food. Lot of cute fashionable old ladies. Highly recommended.
SPEΛKING FROM EXPERIENCE: IT’S KIND OF BOTH. INHΛLE THROVGH MOVTH, EXHΛLE THROVGH GILLS.
immediately that visual is so cool in my head
obsessed with getting vagued on threads by people who obviously only read the first post in my thread
“these people obviously dont know real Artist mistreatment”
I’m a working musician, I literally pester the people I know that have worked with kpop contracts for info because the dream is to work with trainees. I had to take classes in artist contracts that focused on not being taken advantage of. I’m not an expert but I am more informed than your avg fan.
You’re a fan without entertainment industry experience who thinks we shouldn’t talk about mismanagement in a highly predatory industry bc there are worse companies
Or the 40 year old woman who thinks we’re paid PR psyops trying to ruin comeback (most of us have pre-ordered?) Like babe I’ve been doing this since 2017, if i was getting paid I wouldn’t be driving a 2006 crv
most “protect the children” campaigns come with the implication that what’s best for children is 1950s white christian nuclear families and rigid adherence to the status quo, and having been a children I can definitively say that is very very incorrect
There are multiple chapters that are set in hospitals where the characters are attempting to recover from injuries that never fully heal. I must once again stress that my experience in WWI was perfectly normal.
