Draft: Implement LPE's for polygons.

Alternative fix for #5793 (closed) (other fix is !7349 (merged)).

Marked as draft as !7439 is probably preferred. Also, needs more testing as the changes are more invasive. And would need this fix applied to polylines and lines.
