Live effect: Ellipse from Points
This live effect generates a fitted circle or ellipse depending on the number of knots of the path. Moreover, it supports arc (between endpoints) and slice. For drawing isonometric circles the first two edges of the path are used as guidelines. This is a nice addition for technical illustrators. The main axes of the ellipse can be drawn as well as the frame. The axes can be rotated. A rotation of the axes rotates the knots too. This can be a nice feature for technical illustrators. When using the arc mode, the number of knots are optimized based on the opening angle. The tool uses the fit methods available in the very useful 2geom library.
I wrote this live effect already in 2013 for technical illustrations in my PHD thesis. So, its already production proven. Unfortunately, I never made a merge request (back then still on bzr). So, here it is! ;-)
P.S.: I noticed there is still the original branch from me (schwieni_pts2ellipse) in the repository. This can be deleted.
Here are some examples with a screenshot and a svg test-file (/uploads/8fe0011ca8f3b528d303915a187b9c93/pts2ellipseTests.svg)
