Tiling LPE: scaling option is misleading

Following issue #3922

Option "Scale %" gives the user the illusion that scaling will be relative (%) but it is not.

Steps to reproduce:

  • open Inkscape
  • draw a square of a given size
  • apply tiling LPE,
    • 1 row, 4 columns,
    • scale -25%, left to right option.
    • Path > Object to path
    • Path > break apart
    • with select tool, look at W and H of each square

What happened?

Absolute size decreasing is constant from a square to another = 0.25 x size of first square.

What should have happened?

Absolute size decreasing should not be constant because:

  • second square side = 0.75 x first square size as expected.
  • third square side should be 0.75 x second square side = 0.75² x first square size
  • fourth square side should be 0.75 x third square side = = 0.75^3 x first square size

-25% should not be calculated once but from each new square !!! That is the purpose of relative (%) options !

Inkscape Version and Operating System:

  • Inkscape 1.3-dev (d40a2dcd, 2022-11-16) win 11
