I think Deezer airplay is not responsive enough. There is a 2-3 sec delay regarding every button press and music skip or pause. With Apple Music I have never experienced this lag. Please try to make it instant, it’s frustrating.

Hey @Szlancsik Ákos

This is a problem with Apple or is normal for the Airplay protocol. The stream is buffered for a few seconds each time. Deezer can't change anything.
And I am not surprised that it works better with Apple Music.

Hi,

This delay is only occurring if I use Deezer with airplay. If I use other programs with airplay e.g. YouTube or Spotify or Apple Music the skip or the pause button is instantly does the action. So I think it’s not the airplay protocol… I understand the buffering but if I press pause, there is always a delay. I hope you can look into the code or implement it differently.

@Szlancsik Ákos

Oh well, okay. That sounds really a bit strange, as if the command had already been issued with a delay.
Which deezer version are you using and which iOS version?

Do you have any other device with which you can test and compare this?

@dee_dirk

Deezer 9.2.0.5 and IOS 15.2 (iPhone XR). I have tried it with a Mac book air M1 the delay is less ~1sec but still exist. With other app (YouTube Spotify etc. ) there is no delay. Probably they use a different buffer technique, but I don’t know I am not an expert…

Well it’s not really a problem with Apple, it’s mainly a problem with Deezer. Deezer relies on AirPlay 1 which needs buffering and delays… whereas AirPlay 2 (which has been released with iOS 11.4 and is used by Apple Music) introduces instant streaming (and longer buffers).

Keep looking forward to Deezer finally introducing it.

Same problem. It’s really frustrating.

Airplay 2 does not currently play lossless and according to Apple it is not planned at this time to do so. Airplay 1, supported by Deezer, streams at CD quality and allows for better sound quality by far. Should Deezer ever introduce a proper Connect feature then a transition to Airplay 2 would be acceptable, until then  why would we disallow one of Deezer’s best features, available only on Airplay 1?

@BigFKahuna Why do you say that AirPlay 2 is not able to play Lossless audio ? As far as I am aware off (WWDC slides), Apple states that it can.

See:

@jeremybonan if I have time later (just on my way out the door) I will try to find the actual statement from Apple where they admit that even though lossless streaming via Airplay 2 is possible, it in fact does not happen. Rather it is downsampled by a significant degree. For better explanations, search Airplay 2 and lossless audio on John Darko’s website or you tube channel. sYour example above shows what is possible, not what happens.

Hi,

I read your point.
I see there https://emanuelecozzi.net/docs/airplay2/audio/ that what is known about the protocol is that it is indeed made to be able to handle ALAC and PCM at both 16bits and 24bits or 44,1kHz et 46kHz.

So maybe there is also a question on how it is implemented on the renderer side.

I guess the general public cannot know because there is no available official documentation. Maybe, Deezer could let us know.
