Day 1 in Lisbon
today was our first proper day in Portugal !
We have been using the BOLT hailing app to get around as we are about half a hour from the main town. It’s been great you just put in the location and then hop in the car when it arrives SUPER easy, I would defo recommend it’s helped out a lot.
This morning we got dropped in the outskirts of the main town to visit a cafe known as Neighbourhood. Honestly it was amazing, I had an espresso tonic and grace had a Cortado. With our drinks we had a chia pudding which was honestly a life changing experience, if you haven’t tried it you should. Here’s a pic of the coffees, I’ll probably do a more in depth review when I’m back home or if I get time on holiday.
After that we really just mooched all day. We hit up the more touristy streets and saw the big lift that us a huge tourist attraction in Lisbon, we decided that we didn’t really wanna go for it as it’s quite pricey and is about five minutes long. There’s lots of cool independent shops around and I decided to pick up some sardines in oil (these are a big thing in Lisbon and I assume the rest of Portugal). I’ve just had them on toast. Another food win for Portugal very enjoyable indeed.
Around lunchtime we decided to head up to the number one Bifana shop in Lisbon, it’s known as The Bifana of Alfonso . Wow was it good. You can see the pork bubbling away as you order. It’s then put into a freshly baked crusty roll and handed to you. You can then decide to add either chilli oil or mustard (or both in my case ). If you’re going to Lisbon any time soon you have to go here. The queue can get quite long so go earlier rather than later. We went around 11:30 but by the time we left after eating it on the step outside, it was HEAVING easily a 20/30 minute wait, as the workers are in no rush, they know they do it the best and don’t worry about you leaving ha ha.
In the afternoon grace decided to take advantage of the exchange rate and buy some new Birkenstocks as hers where REALLY on there last legs. After securing those we headed to another cafe called fabrica. On the way we came across 2 men outside a deli, they invited us in for a free wine tasting and although at first we were a bit wary but we decided to go for it in the end. It was really fun and both guys were lovely, we chatted about England and how our sea was cold and there’s was hot as well as other things England related. The wine we had was really quite amazing and I’m glad we decided to embrace the unexpected. Any way back to Fabrica coffee, inside it was really cool and sleek. This time I had a cold brew and a pastel de nata both very good, as everything seems to be here in Lisbon.
Then we just took a bolt back to the B and B and I’ve been writing my blog ever since. Me and Grace have been sharing a bottle of wine that we got in a super market for 3 euros, how crazy is that!! and have just been chatting away deciding on what to have for dinner.
We’ve decide on Bonjardin which is a traditional peri peri chicken restaurant. I’m very excited as I love a cheeky Nando’s back home, fingers crossed it’s not too spicy ha ha.
I’ll let you know once we’ve been
Signing off for today !!
