In New York, he honed his acting skills internationally, and since then, he has worked as a freelance actor and occasional producer in film and theater. Stefan had his first international film experience in 1986 in Spain in the film El río de oro with Angela Molina. He then went on to work in films such as Dreissig Jahre (1989), Brandnacht (1992), and the series Sternenfänger (2002).
