Full-of-Fear Kier…

News this morning that the Donald has confirmed what we this side of the pond have known for some time : Starmer has no backbone…

Two things seem to have ticked him off. Firstly why the hell is he giving away British sovereign territory to a potentially hostile power – China. From a UK viewpoint of course we should be asking why Starmer is committing billions of our hard earned taxes to leasing back what was ours in the first place.

And then there’s this mornings news that planning permission has been granted for China to build a massive spy centre in the middle of London. No doubt that will make him popular when Never Here Kier visits China later this month.

Do I see more u-turns on the horizon? Possibly! There’s the likelihood of a legal challenge over the Chinese embassy plans and the Lords have thrown out the Chaggos deal, so that goes back to the Commons.

And while all this animosity with The Donald is going on, Full of Fear Kier has decided that he’s not going to attend the economic summit in Davos due to “urgent matters at home” – so absolutely nothing to do with him having to face Trump in person.

All in all I’m inclined to latch onto an expression for Starmer that I came across the other day: The Cowardly Dictator. To me it sums him up perfectly…

Let’s all do the shuffle…

Well it’s been quite few days hasn’t it? First Nadihm Zahawi, then Robert Jenrick and now Andrew Rosindale. And last week we had 20 councillors jump ship predominently from the Conservatives but also from the Greens and Limp Dumps.

So the big question this week is when is a well known Labour figure going to cross over to Reform. Farage has hinted that it’s going to happen on Thursday, so we wait with baited beath. My money is on Kate Hoey. She was a prominent figure in the Leave EU campaign when she worked with Farage. I could be wrong of course.

And then there’s Karl Turner. He’s been a Labour MP for 15 years and last week said that he is “ashamed” of the Prime Minister and described the justice minister David Lammy as “lazy” in a furious outburst over controversial Government plans to scrap the ancient right of trial by jury.

Whatever happens next, my view is that most of the new intake of Labour MPs are too drippy and woke to cross the floor. The back benchers are too left wing and the Cabinet have little or no real world experience, which for Farage is a major turn off. That leaves the so called “blue Labour” group, recently reformed. Could one of them decide enough is enough?

Badenoch meanwhile is concentrating on the character assination of Jenrick. She’s called him a liar and said you can’t believe a word that comes out of his mouth. In which case, why did you appoint him to the shadow cabinet Kemi?

But at least it’s good to know that Kemi is 100% certain that no other shadow cabinet members will defect. Just like she was last week.

So why the picture above then? Well all this shuffling around has put me in mind of the Monster Raving Looney Party. They knew how to do a cabinet shuffle! Lay it down, take the doors off and jump in. Perhaps Starmer could learn a thing or two from them on how to do a proper shuffle…

Potholes are good!

There’s been a lot of fuss here in Smalltown about the state of our roads and if there’s one thing we’re good at here it’s making a fuss – especially when we’re being unfairly criticised. Oh yes!

It seems that we’ve been designated as a red zone for potholes! Apparently they’re causing a lot of damage to our residents vehicles. So we sent our roving reporter, Johnny Dashcam to a local garage to find out what the fuss was about…

“So what’s all this about potholes damaging cars”

“Well see for yourself. Just look at the suspension on this one. Totally wrecked and the insurance won’t cover it…

“So that’s no good for anyone then is it?

“Oh I don’t know. It’s been great for my business. Turnover’s up and I’ve taken on extra staff so you could argue that leaving things as they are saves the government money and boosts the local economy. It’s a win win really isn’t it?”

Except for the poor old motorists – but then the Government’s always regarded them as a cash cow so what’s new…?

Two Tier strikes again!

The level of hypocrisy in our politicians has never ceased to amaze me over the years that I have been writing this blog, so you can imagine how delighted I was when the above X (formerly Twatter) post came to light.

By my count Starmer is about to embark on his 13th u-turn since coming to office 18 or so months ago. We’ve had the winter fuel payments, WASPIs, winter fuel payments, family farm tax, digital ID, jury trials – I could go on and on (and probably will!). Now it’s business rates. I doubt there’s no end to this man’s ability to cave in to pressure.

Of course all of this could have been avoided if he’d just taken the time to think things through before announcing them. It’s clear Labour came to power with no plan in place and is still making policy up as they go along.

And notably, at this week’s PMQs, Starmer confirmed that digital ID would be ‘mandatory’ when the same morning one of his ministers confirmed that it wouldn’t be. Just a suggestion Prime Minister, but try reading your briefings before you take questions. Not that you ever answer any of them anyway.

Earlier this week the government’s own socials changed the description of PMQs from Starmer ‘answered questions’ to ‘faced questions’ which really says it all doesn’t it?

And did you notice that on Monday there was to be a debate about the petition demanding a General Election? Seen anything reported about that? No? Me neither.

As for the above screen grab of Starmer’s Twatter post, it speaks for itself doesn’t it..?

Reform UK – What next?

Six months ago I wrote a somewhat scathing piece about Reform UK focussing on the shambles and unprofessionalism that was rife in our local Reform constituency branch at the time. Basically it was falling apart.

Well, I’m pleased to see that things have changed somewhat for the better. Pretty much the entire committee has changed with the exception of one person who has also been elected to Suffolk County Council. Things are a whole lot better. Reform’s computer systems – whilst still not perfect – have improved dramatically and communication from the top has also vastly improved. I suppose it was inevitable that any new venture such as Reform would experience many teething problems. The message, however, is that things have improved and are moving in the right direction.

Which brings me on to Robert Jenrick. Much was said yesterday about his expulsion from the Conservative Party amidst much crowing by Badenoch. How you view this depends, I suppose, on which political viewpoint you view it from.

From my point of view, it seems more than opportune that with the Conservatives due to take a beating in next May’s election – at least those which Starmer hasn’t cancelled – Badenoch has uncovered this rather convenient document by Jenrick indicating his defection to Reform. I say opportune because if you are going to face a leadership challenge after the May results, then this might be seen as an opportunity to remove your main challenger.

Jenrick might be many things, but he gets off his backside and tackles issues as was evidenced by his YouTube videos tackling fare dodgers and the like. Jenrick is also not stupid and yet, according to Badenoch, he left his draft defection speech lying around for any Tom, Dick or Harry to find. So nobody broke into his desk while he was out or hacked his word processor then?

The thing I find interesting about the whole affair was that the Conservatives have released ‘excerpts’ from this document. Why not the whole thing? And why does Badenoch think that Jenrick will be prevented from speaking out just because she’s sacked him? To me that makes no sense at all.

But then again in this country nothing really makes much sense at the moment…
