The Pennsy K4 Locomotive, oil on linen, 9x12
CW placed a grid on his model train diorama photo, then turned the photo upside down.
He created the same grid on the canvas, and painted square by square, copying the shapes, values, colors and edges . This method allowed him to see beyond the subject matter.
Once finished, he turned the painting right side up and made minor corrections or added a little detail.
