If this is really the first time you are reading about RSS, we should start from the beginning. Literally, RSS is an acronym that stands for “Rich Site Summary,” but more often for “Really Simple Syndication.” Sounds not so simple, but it honestly is! RSS is a method or way of receiving information and updates from a website. Remember those days when newspapers were delivered to your house by a postman every morning? Basically, it works in kinda the same way. Instead of having to look through a site, searching for what interests you, you receive that updated information from the website as soon as it’s published. Sounds cool, right? (Want a more serious description? Check Wikipedia’s page). To subscribe to RSS feeds, you need to use an RSS reader or an e-mail client that includes an RSS option.

RSS “readers” or “aggregators” are even simpler. There are many of them that you can use, and almost all of them are free. RSS readers are provided by iTunes, Google, Safari, Yahoo, and Firefox. Such widely used feed readers can monitor multiple sites and provide updates to all of them in one place. You don’t even need to download software for the web-based readers, as this functionality is already built-in. The readers will detect whether the site you are viewing offers an RSS feed and will let you create a constantly-updated list of links in your “bookmarks” menu. (Again, here’s Wikipedia’s long list.) Some websites and apps also allow you to manage RSS feeds from multiple sites on your favorite devices (desktop, tablet, smartphone).

Find the RSS icon or button. Click on it. Select Copy Link Location to copy the URL of the feed. Open your RSS Feed Reader. Paste the copied URL into your Feed Reader. Now you have subscribed.
