@abraham.su For what it’s worth, I voted no. I understand the argument for counterpunching, but I don’t think you defend democratic legitimacy by making temporary exception rules in the middle of active partisan warfare. That feels too reactive, too interventionist, and too easy to repeat.
@abraham.su By raw numbers, the white underclass is already massive: ~20M in poverty, ~300k in local jails, and the largest group in federal prisons. This is not about losing control someday. It is already here.
@abraham.su People with real wealth already live with Plan B. Mobility, second passports, liquid assets. They can exit. That is the real divide. If you cannot move, you are the one at risk of becoming the underclass, not because of identity, but because you lack options.

@abraham.su Because the only subject of that speech is about public opinion. It’s not about consumer depreciation or anything. It’s about the philosophy of economics and hearts and minds with regards to public opinion. Which I find much more fascinating. It’s worth a listen. He’s an old school intellectual.

In a democracy the voters aren’t some alien species to diagnose from a lab. They’re us, messy and flawed, including the person complaining.
