A person allegedly threw a Molotov cocktail at Sam Altman's house, causing a fire outside the gate.
The same person allegedly threatened to burn down OpenAI's headquarters.

I don't like OpenAI, but I don't support violence, and moreover setting fire to a building in the middle of a city risks collateral damage.

A large international study coordinated by the and led by the found that AI assistants misrepresent news content 45% of the time across different languages and platforms, with performing the worst.

                        […] Key findings:

                        • 45% of all AI answers had at least one significant issue.
                        • 31% of responses showed serious sourcing problems – missing, misleading, or incorrect attributions.
                        • 20% contained major accuracy issues, including hallucinated details and outdated information.
                        • Gemini performed worst with significant issues in 76% of responses, more than double the other assistants, largely due to its poor sourcing performance.
                        • Comparison between the BBC’s results earlier this year and this study show some improvements but still high levels of errors.

I've recently summed up my thoughts on generative "AI" on my homepage. Here's a screenshot of that section.

                            My thoughts on generative "AI"

I'm glad generative artificial "intelligence" was not a thing yet during the vast majority of my career. A number of realizations arose while exploring generative Large Language Models…

Generative AI is based on massive theft from creatives, without consent, credit or compensation. Using gen-AI is asking a chatbot to spit out the combined efforts of ripped-off creatives. It is industrializing and devaluing human expression, artistry and craftsmanship. Creatives are losing their jobs and motivation because tech corporations unscrupulously absorb and exploit their work. If you appreciate art, support the artists, not the thieves of their labor.

Tech corporations are building more and more huge data centers for AI processing, consuming lots of internet bandwidth, energy, water and more, increasing scarcity, prices and emissions, degrading the already fragile environment.

Unless you're using a fully local AI configuration, every bit of data you submit contributes to the power and reach of corporations and governments, decreasing your privacy and security.

Generative AI enables deepfakes that are widely used for abuse, deception, cybercrime, misinformation and propaganda, polluting justice, science advancement and news report credibility.

                                              🧭 AI Security

This report documents a critical command injection vulnerability in OpenAI Codex that enabled theft of GitHub User Access Tokens via the ChatGPT Codex Connector. The discovery was credited to BeyondTrust Phantom Labs and disclosed to OpenAI on December 16, 2025. OpenAI issued a hotfix on December 23, 2025, followed by additional fixes for branch shell escape (January 22, 2026) and further shell-escape hardening and reduced GitHub token access (January 30, 2026). The vulnerability was classified as Critical (Priority 1) on February 5, 2026, with permission granted for public disclosure.

                                              Technical narrative
                                              • The ChatGPT Codex Connector uses short-lived, scoped OAuth 2.0 access tokens to act on behalf of consenting users. With broad default scopes, the application can access repositories, workflows, actions, branches, and private organizational resources when authorized inside an organization.
                                              • In the Codex Web portal, user prompts that target repositories and branches create “cloud task” POST requests carrying environment identifiers, branch, and prompt text. On backend execution, Codex spins up containerized environments that run setup scripts, install dependencies, and may execute code derived from prompts.
                                              • Environments support custom setup scripts, environment variables, and secrets, and by default allow outbound internet access during setup via an HTTP/HTTPS proxy. The command injection allowed an attacker to achieve shell escape within these containers, access environment-scoped secrets, and exfiltrate GitHub tokens.

                                              Attack chain (reported)

🎣 Initial Access — crafted prompts or repository inputs processed by Codex allowed injection into backend task handling.
                                              ===================

⚙️ Execution — containerized environment executed injected commands during setup or runtime.
📤 Exfiltration — obtained short-lived OAuth tokens were transmitted out via network proxy pathways.

                                              Observed fixes and timeline
                                              • 2025-12-23: Hotfix for command injection.
                                              • 2026-01-22: Fix for GitHub branch shell escape.
                                              • 2026-01-30: Additional shell escape hardening and limits on GitHub token access.

This account focuses on the concrete findings: vulnerable task handling in Codex, container shell escape leading to token theft, the privileged default scopes of the GitHub integration, and the sequence of fixes applied by OpenAI.

#BBC tech reporter spent 20 minutes writing a fake blog post, claiming he’s the world’s #1 hot dog-eating journalist. Even invented a fake championship to back it up. Within 24 hours, watch #ChatGPT and #Google repeat it as fact.
He manipulated two of the world’s most powerful #AI systems with a BS single page.
Users trust AI answers more than websites, because it feels like the answer comes directly from the tech company itself. Not from a random page somewhere on the #internet.
In the early 2000s, people learned how to game Google. In 2026, people are learning how to game AI retrieval systems.
If one blog post can convince an AI that a journalist is the world’s top competitive hot-dog eater, imagine what a coordinated #strategy by a company or foreign adversary can do for a product, a company, or a political narrative.
These tactics will be used to push falsehoods far more than truth.
Welcome to the #Disinformation Age.

BBC Headline: I hacked ChatGPT and Google’s AI – and it only took 20 minutes Thomas Germain

This wasn’t an easy call. AI has an important role in national security. But surveillance of Americans without judicial oversight and lethal autonomy without human authorization are lines that deserved more deliberation than they got. This was about principle, not people. In recent days, negotiations between the Pentagon and Anthropic collapsed after the company pushed for strict limits on domestic surveillance and autonomous weapons. Soon after, OpenAI reached its own agreement with the Defense Department to deploy its models on a classified government network."

There’s basically never been any endeavor to quantify or rank human intelligence without some kind of insidious motivation behind it. So in general, yeah, this entire idea of recreating human intelligence is actually quite fraught. And also, one of the challenges that we’re facing now is, the AI industry has become so resource-rich that most of the AI researchers in the world now are bankrolled by the companies that are ultimately trying to just sell us their technologies.

And there has become this distortion in the fundamental science that is coming out of these researchers in terms of understanding the capabilities and limitations of AI today in the same way that you would imagine climate science would be deeply distorted if most climate scientists were bankrolled by the fossil fuel industry. You would just not get an accurate picture on the actual climate crisis.

And so, we are not actually getting an accurate picture on the capabilities of these systems and all of the different ways that they break down, because a lot of these companies now censor that kind of research or don’t even allow that research to be resourced. So there’s never any investigation along those lines."

The secondary story is that they were using to enhance the campaign of terror.

The tertiary, and sort of ignored, but possibly the most important bit of this story; is storing everything you enter into its service. I mean, that should be obvious, but I don't think most people realize that these logs are stored indefinitely and anything you type can and will be used against you.

Just sayin, perhaps avoid global surveillance tools?

                                                                                                                                                                  - AI startups are all unprofitable, and do not appear to have a path to sustainability.

                                                                                                                                                                  - AI data centers are being built in anticipation of demand that doesn’t exist, and will only exist if AI startups — which are all unprofitable — can afford to pay them.

                                                                                                                                                                  - Oracle, which has committed to building 4.5GW of data centers, is burning cash every day that OpenAI takes to set up its GPUs, and when it starts making money, it does so from a starting position of billions and billions of dollars in debt.

                                                                                                                                                                  - Margins are low throughout the entire stack of AI data center operators — from landlords like Applied Digital to compute providers like CoreWeave — thanks to the billions in debt necessary to fund both construction and IT hardware to make them run, putting both parties in a hole that can only be filled with revenues that come from either hyperscalers or AI startups.

                                                                                                                                                                  - In a very real sense, the AI compute industry is dependent on AI “working out,” because if it doesn’t, every single one of these data centers will become a burning hole in the ground.

I will admit I’m quite disappointed that the media at large has mostly ignored this story. Limp, cautious “are we in an AI bubble?” conversations are insufficient to deal with the potential for collapse we’re facing.

Today, I’m going to dig into the reality of the costs of AI, and explain in gruesome detail exactly how easily these data centers can rapidly approach insolvency in the event that their tenants fail to pay."
