                        Microsoft agiert hier äußerst "kreativ"!

"Microsoft Corporation’s LinkedIn is running a massive, global, and illegal spying operation on every computer that visits their website."
                        (...)
As part of the campaign in removing everyone from the market who might actually make use of the Digital Markets Act, **LinkedIn started injecting malicious code into the browsers of their users**, without their knowledge or their consent.

At the time of writing, this code downloads a list of 6,222 software products and brute-forces the detection of each one. The scan covers extensions with a combined user base of approximately 405 million people.
                        (...)
Because LinkedIn knows each visitor’s name, employer, and job title, every detected extension is matched to an identified individual. And because LinkedIn knows where each user works, these individual scans aggregate into detailed profiles of companies, institutions, and government agencies, revealing which software tools their employees use without the organization’s knowledge or consent."

The accusation is much scarier as it taps into corporate espionage and mass surveillance.

Microsoft is accused of illegally searching browser extension whenever a user sign in into LinkedIn. It scans for any signs of use of religious belief, political orientation, as well as disabilities of individuals. There is also the accusation of the data being handed over to Israeli spyware firm.

"This is illegal and potentially a criminal offense in every jurisdiction we have examined."

Researchers have determined that Microsoft's LinkedIn is scanning browser plug-ins and other information without permission, building user profiles using data that the company did not get permission to take.

I've recently summed up my thoughts on generative "AI" on my homepage. Here's a screenshot of that section.

                                        My thoughts on generative "AI"

I'm glad generative artificial "intelligence" was not a thing yet during the vast majority of my career. A number of realizations arose while exploring generative Large Language Models…

Generative AI is based on massive theft from creatives, without consent, credit or compensation. Using gen-AI is asking a chatbot to spit out the combined efforts of ripped-off creatives. It is industrializing and devaluing human expression, artistry and craftsmanship. Creatives are losing their jobs and motivation because tech corporations unscrupulously absorb and exploit their work. If you appreciate art, support the artists, not the thieves of their labor.

Tech corporations are building more and more huge data centers for AI processing, consuming lots of internet bandwidth, energy, water and more, increasing scarcity, prices and emissions, degrading the already fragile environment.

Unless you're using a fully local AI configuration, every bit of data you submit contributes to the power and reach of corporations and governments, decreasing your privacy and security.

Generative AI enables deepfakes that are widely used for abuse, deception, cybercrime, misinformation and propaganda, polluting justice, science advancement and news report credibility.

                                                        为防止为WSL安装桌面 #40072
                                                        github.com/microsoft/WSL/issue

                                                        English:
Warning: Running a full desktop environment in WSL is not a recommended configuration and may cause significant performance degradation.
                                                        官网中应提及这一点。

                                                        最后,这样试试?说不定大家都不安装桌面了。

The idea that Office 365 is compliant for use in any regulated space is *absolutely laughable*, but apparently the reason GCC High is approved for government use is because the government let agencies use it while they were evaluating it, and then realized so many agencies were now dependent on it, that they had to approve it even though it wasn't able to actually meet the security criteria.

Federal reviewers spent years trying to get basic encryption documentation from Microsoft for its GCC High government cloud. They couldn't get it. One reviewer called the system a "pile of spaghetti pies," with data traveling from point A to point B the way you'd get from Chicago to New York: a bus to St. Louis, a ferry to Pittsburgh, and a flight to Newark. Each leg is a potential hijacking. They knew this. They said this out loud in writing. Then they approved it anyway in December 2024, because too many agencies were already using it. 🔐 That's not a security review. That's a hostage negotiation. Two things in this story should make every CISO and CIO uncomfortable:

🧩 Microsoft built its federal cloud on top of decades of legacy code that it apparently can't fully document itself

It's this: FedRAMP determined that refusing authorization wasn't feasible because agencies were already using the product. Read that again. The security review process reached a conclusion based on sunk cost, not risk. Ex Post Facto Fallacy

I will include a link later but what’s your favorite debloat script? If you say Linux, I’m blocking you. I checked out some newer ones that obviously disabled things like location, things like that, and there’s even a few that actually disable all sounds, windows sounds. No thank you, I need location for things such as Aira but what’s your favorite Debloat script? I know about Tiny11 but it won’t detect the drivers for this laptop and making sure I export all the drivers for the right machine is more trouble than it’s worth.

Given that and other unknowns, government experts couldn’t vouch for the technology’s security.

Such judgments would be damning for any company seeking to sell its wares to the U.S. government, but it should have been particularly devastating for Microsoft. The tech giant’s products had been at the heart of two major cybersecurity attacks against the U.S. in three years. In one, Russian hackers exploited a weakness to steal sensitive data from a number of federal agencies, including the National Nuclear Security Administration. In the other, Chinese hackers infiltrated the email accounts of a Cabinet member and other senior government officials.

The federal government could be further exposed if it couldn’t verify the cybersecurity of Microsoft’s Government Community Cloud High, a suite of cloud-based services intended to safeguard some of the nation’s most sensitive information.

Yet, in a highly unusual move that still reverberates across Washington, the Federal Risk and Authorization Management Program, or FedRAMP, authorized the product anyway, bestowing what amounts to the federal government’s cybersecurity seal of approval. FedRAMP’s ruling — which included a kind of “buyer beware” notice to any federal agency considering GCC High — helped Microsoft expand a government business empire worth billions of dollars."

Microsoft Research has taken Project Silica out of the lab and turned it into a real system that uses regular glass. They use special lasers to write data into borosilicate glass, creating a storage medium that can last for 10,000 years. This is more than just an experiment; they’ve already stored 4.8 terabytes on a piece of glass about the size of a drink coaster.

What’s most impressive is how tough this storage is. You could put these glass slabs in boiling water or even a microwave, and the data would still be safe. Because glass doesn’t need power to keep the data intact, it’s possible to create huge archives that don’t use any electricity for cooling or upkeep. This could mean the end of the Digital Dark Age.

🧠 One glass slab holds 4.8 terabytes of permanent data.
⚡ Lasers etch 301 layers of data into 2mm of glass.
🎓 Borosilicate glass reduces the cost of archival storage.
