I've got to fill out a UK #Tax Self Assessment for 24-25 and I've hit a snag.

This question might sound really easy, but what is "income"?

I have some shares in a foreign company (that I used to work for and were purchased under a staff stock purchase plan).

Are the dividends from those shares classed as income? They are automatically reinvested in new shares, so I won't actually have any tangible cash I can spend unless I sell the shares and the value could go down or up.

I know I need to find a tax expert, and possibly pay for their advice, but I thought I'd start with #AskFedi

What is considered state of the art for Endpoint management, and specifically security controls (EDR, SIEM, RMM, etc.) for BSD? There usually exists clients and agents for Linux in this space. There is an abandoned(?) Wazuh port for FreeBSD that I am aware of but I would like to know what people do.

2. They won't do down-payments (start for free).
3. They want complete copyright ownership of code from day one and she works on their org's github pushing code (IP ownership before payment).
4. They quoted her last year's currency conversion rates when she said USD.
5. They won't allow her to showcase the final public facing website on her portfolio.
6. No deemed acceptance clause.

Hey Fedi, bit of printer advice please....

I'm looking for replacement label printers - we used to use Dymo 450 but they were EOL'd a while back and the new software's a bin-fire. Any subsequent Dymos have DRM'd consumables so we can't use non-Dymo labels, cos Dymo are bastards.

Ideally we want something with a wired LAN interface, or that I can hook into CUPS on a Pi to network-print given a PDF. Must be able to take 1" and 1.5" label rolls.

Do progress bars fail to show progress because they're stumped by local maxima?

I've been poking around in Letterboxd to see if I can tell it what streaming services I'm currently subscribed to.

It would be of value to me if I could tell it my subscriptions, and then filter movies by which I'm subscribed to. Can it do that?

No point in me using it otherwise, since I have my to-watch list elsewhere.

The hassle of picking a movie when I don't know if I have access to it is the biggest barrier for me getting back into a regular movie routine again. For awhile I got around this simply by renting after choosing from my list. But I'm short on extra cash at the moment, and that's not sustainable if I do it frequently.

(My local library doesn't have Kanopy/Hoopla.)

What's a good substitute for "Malted Milk Powder?"

I'm working on adapting a recipe that calls for malted milk powder (e.g. Carnation brand). The restriction is a gluten allergy. Malt is generally always malted barley, so naturally it's a no-go.

For the curious, I'm working on a particular kind of cake-y cookie. Yes, I'll post about it if/when it's successful, or if it's a comical failure.

Fediverse, I need your help diagnosing a weird finger thing I've got going on!

I have a SUPER sensitive spot on each of my fingers, about half way between the end of my fingernail, and my first knuckle. The slightest bump there on anything hard is debilitatingly painful. The pain is way out of proportion to how hard I bump it though, almost as if there is a secret nerve pain point sitting at those spots on my fingers.

But no one else I've spoken to seems to experience the issue. And turning to web searches simply turns up discussion about infected fingernails.

It's not new, my fingers have always been like this, so I'm not worried about it, just curious as to what it could be, given that apparently no one else experiences it.

So help me fediverse? What weirdness is going on with my fingers?

Need help from Lisp wizards — looks like I'm missing something simple and obvious (but not so obvious for beginner). I'm trying to build (with ECL) the simple program, which uses ql:quickload to load parse-number, then prints "Hello world". It builds without errors, but resulting binary could not be executed — it prints error message about unknown "ql:quickload" function.

An eSIM was recommended to a friend who's travelling to Japan. Her phone isn’t eSIM-compatible, though. Does anyone with local knowledge know if she’d even need a SIM there just for a short trip? I imagine Japanese WiFi to be tip-top in trains, hotels, cafés. I received a phone call from a law office yesterday. Apparently when my mother passed away she left me property that she owned with my dad. The law office contacted me to ask me to take my name off the deed. I've been #nocontact with my parents for over 5 years now. I honestly don't remember if I've been told about this property at all.

Would it be worth fighting them on this? Is it worth going to court to get my dad's name off the deed? It would be amazing to get some extra cash from the sale of this property. The property in question has been for sale since December, but my parents didn't contact me until now and even that contact was through a secretary...

If a developer opts for writing a Node.js app with Electron, would they *in principle* have the option of repackaging it as a server-based app instead?

Or is an Electron app so far removed from a "normal" web app running in a browser that that's crazytalk, as such a thing would amount to a complete rewrite?
