Columnist: I'm standing up for what I believe in! Protecting women's sport! And I'll keep standing up for it, no matter how much those snowflakes try to silence me and my right to free speech!

Citizen: That's fantastic! You know, female athletes have to put up with so much vicious misogyny and abuse, especially on social media. Some men really can be snowflakes when it comes to women's sport.

Columnist: No! I'm raising the big issue in women's sport, and I'm being /attacked/ for it!

Citizen: Really?! People are attacking you for saying female athletes deserve equal pay for equal work?

Columnist: Not that one! I'm talking about something far more serious, affecting the health and wellbeing of female athletes. And even the very integrity of women's sport itself!

Citizen: Do you mean how sports science focuses almost exclusively on male athletes, leading to women suffering anterior cruciate ligament injuries at six times the rate of men (citation: https://www.nytimes.com/2026/02/26/magazine/acl-tear-women-girl-sports.html )?

Citizen: Or do you mean how elite women's sport is routinely relegated to worse venues and TV coverage, with less sponsorship and promotion?

Columnist: No! I'm talking about protecting women's sport from the scourge of men transitioning for the sole purpose of winning at women's sport!

Citizen: Why would a professional male athlete who's not trans want to go through all the challenges and discrimination of transitioning for less pay, less TV coverage, fewer sponsorships, smaller crowds, less promotion, higher injury risk, worse venue, online abuse, and rampant misogyny, just to win at women's sport?

Columnist: Because *winning*!

Citizen: Can you give an example of where this has actually happened?

Columnist: ...

Citizen: And what do you propose to do about it?

Columnist: Totally dismantle democracy, install a totalitarian dictatorship, arrest or kill anyone who disagrees with said despot, and deport ethnic minorities en masse. Also we'll use it to justify rolling back all healthcare and civil rights to trans people, establishing that human rights exist at the arbitrary will of our overload, which the despot will use arbitrarily against all women and any other individuals or groups he disagrees with.

Citizen: That seems a bit... extreme.

Columnist: It's all to protect women's sport.

Citizen: And what will you do about the other issues I raised?

Columnist: Well, if any of them, such as research into sports medicine for women or facilities for women's sport, require public funding, then we'll cut the funding and give the money back to rich supporters of our despot as a tax cut.

Citizen: I see. Say, just out of curiosity, who do you think will win the grand final in the AFLW this year?

Columnist: I honestly don't care. I'm not into women's sport, sorry.

Hold a referendum to bring the water industry into public ownership

Hold a binding national referendum on whether the water industry should be returned to public ownership. Water is a basic human necessity; we believe our privatised system has failed, so the public should decide who owns and controls it.

Letting Minsters bypass Parliament with Henry VIII powers is never a good idea.

But the government did it anyway, by packing the new UK data protection Act with them.

That means a potential future Reform government could easily create an integrated database for use by a British ICE.

US lawmakers slam Trump social media post saying that a
‘whole civilization will die tonight’

Reporter Shrai Popat

Chuck Schumer, the top Senate Democrat, has called Donald Trump an
“extremely sick person” in response to the president’s recent post on Truth
Social - in which he said “a whole civilization will tonight” if Iran fails to
meet his 8pm ET deadline to reopen the strait of Hormuz.

“Each Republican who refuses to join us in voting against this wanton war of
choice owns every consequence of whatever the hell this is,” Schumer
added.

Other Democrats have slammed Trump’s most recent comments, hours
before he promises to follow through on his threat to target civilian
infrastructure and power plants in Iran.

Chris Murphy, a Democratic senator who sits on the foreign relations
committee, said that Trump’s plan is to “murder thousands of innocent
Iranians and hope for a civil war that somehow ends up with the strait of
Hormuz reopening”. Murphy also highlighted the global energy crisis that
has spiralled since the war began and oil prices spiked.

Great post from Paul, which applies to many parts of the world.

In the UK we seeing the rise of facism, growing violence against minorities and loss of human rights.

Nobody is coming to save us, each of us have to all do everything we can to fight this toxic tide.

Worth reading the whole thread, very inspiring.

My fellow people of the United States, if I have anything to teach from what Minneapolis just lived through, it is this:

Nobody is coming to save us.

Not Congress. Not the courts. Not the ICC or the EU or NATO. Not the generals or the rank and file. Not the press. Not the markets. Not the elections. Not some mythical version of “The People” that materializes out of nowhere as some messianic external force.

We’re it. We’re all we’ve got. If we don’t stop fascism from completely engulfing the US, then nobody stops it.

Time we starting charging extortionate rent for these Imperial outposts......

Fuck off USA, get off our land!

Depending on whose definitions you accept, the US has either 11 or 13
military bases and listening stations in the UK. They include the misnamed
RAF Lakenheath in Suffolk, actually a US air force base, from which it
deploys F-35 jets; RAF Menwith Hill in North Yorkshire, in reality a US NSA
base conducting military espionage and operational support; RAF
Croughton, part-operated by the CIA, which allegedly used the base to spy
on Angela Merkel among many others; and RAF Fylingdales, part of the US
Space Surveillance Network. If the US now sides with Russia against the UK
and Europe, these could just as well be Russian bases and listening stations.

It's difficult to get folks to focus on the real impact of policy lately during this downward spiral into populism, but Labour's energy policy and efforts to decarbonise the grid are going extraordinarily well.

Watch: Green Party’s Mothin Ali provides brilliant take on race and social class

The Co-Deputy Leader of the Green Party Mothin Ali has released a beautiful and moving video about his upbringing in Sheffield, conveying some vital truths about the class unity needed to take on Britain’s establishment.

It starts with Ali on a bus talking about a recent encounter in London:

So, I was in London the other day and this bloke, he comes right up to me. He says, “Why don’t you eff off back to where you came from?” And you know what? I thought I will. So, I came back here to Sheffield.

From there, we hear about Ali’s upbringing amidst the heavy industry of the 1980s, and the working class unity that existed across racial groups, even if prejudice wasn’t entirely absent from British life at the time. He recalls how the community was shattered by the policies of Margaret Thatcher. Now 40 years later in a deindustrialised society, the social fragmentation caused by those neoliberal policies has seen racist attitudes skyrocket.

Ali: we must work “side by side” to shatter chains of capitalism

There has only ever been one trans woman athlete at the Olympics, and she finished last. It wasn't a trans sneak attack, the athlete made no secret of her history. There is no evidence at all of trans women "stealing" soort from cis women. This ban is transphobic but the direct victims of the ruling are intersex and cis women who are now required to "prove" they are women. The violence is that people who have lived their whole lives as women will be told they aren't really valid. That they are a threat to their sisters.

Zack Polanski challenges government to confirm US B-52
bombers taking off from UK not inflicting civilian casualties

Zack Polanski, the Green party leader, has urged the government to clarify
what role is being played by US B-52 bombers operating from RAF Fairfield in
Gloucestershire. In a statement today, he said:

44 B-52 bombers are taking off from RAF Fairfield, we are told, for defensive US
action. The prime minister needs to explain clearly how planes loaded up with
missiles, taking off from a UK base, are being used for defensive rather than
offensive raids.

The fact is these planes are part of “Operation Epic Fury”, a dangerous war of
choice by the US.

The British public do not support this war. So Keir Starmer must answer this:
are B-52 bomb carriers taking off from UK soil being used to inflict civilian
casualities or damage civilian infrastructure in Iran?

I've no idea whether it'll pick up more support or not. Most of the opposition seems to be on abstract principle rather than implementation detail, and notionally the House just accepted the principle behind the bill.

It is curious framing though. The two major themes emerging seem to be a) that it's being rushed, and b) that it's an 'Establishment versus victims' dispute. On the latter, it's largely being presented as female victims of sexual violence seeking better justice opposite an entrenched bar clinging to antiquity.

                                                                                                                                                                    Hmmm.

I have my affection for the constitutional principle, but also concur with Leveson's report. Plus I have a lot of faith in our judiciary so doubt it'd lead to short term disaster.

Were the Tories (who caused all this in the first place) or Reform doing this though, I'd oppose it, particularly since it'll poison and politicise the judiciary in the long term.

He is asked what he is trying to do to bring communities together at such a divided time.

“It is a really sad feature – isn’t it – at a time that this that some people will try to use it as an opportunity to divide,” the prime minister said.

“We have to be really conscious that where people want to divide at the moment in relation to this conflict it’s in the space of trying to divide the Muslim community and the Jewish community so we are working particularly on those two strands.”

Starmer says one of his “biggest concerns” is that there are too many politicians who want to “set up grievances between different groups of people”, something he says he fundamentally rejects as he praises the diversity of the country.

Starmer has been accused of pandering to the populist right in a failed attempt to attract Reform voters through harsh rhetoric on migration in particular.

Certainly no mention of detention or arrests in the articles I read despite reports of punches thrown in separate incidents featuring the same man

So that makes it a bit less stressful.

And then there's like, a rolling parliament. :D
