A great piece of Ninjago history

The serpentine army is searching for the four Fangblades, ancient weapons made from the teeth of the Great Devourer. Once united, the Great Devourer will rise again. Pythor P. Chumsworth, King of the Anacondai, and his guard, Spitta, a Venomari soldier, have the red Fangblade. The ninja must face off against them and retrieve the blade before it’s too late. However, first the ninja must catch up to them, and the Ultra Sonic Raider is the perfect vehicle for the task.

All four of the original Ninjago team members from Season 1 - “Rise of the snakes,” are included in this set. They are all similar but wearing their signature colors and clad in their ZX armor carry a katan that can slide into a scabbard attached to the armor shoulder pads. Each ninja is also armed with one of the “Golden Weapons.” A specially molded “Sword of Fire” is included for Kai, Jay gets the “Nun Chucks of Lightning,” build from two special bar elements connected with a 5-link chain, the two “Shurikens of Ice” belong with Zane, and Cole’s “Scythe of Quakes” is built using an L4 bar with a perpendicular connector and claw element.

Two serpentine minifigures are also included in this set, Pythor and Spitta. Pythor has three parts molded in purple and printed with black and gold scales. He has a standard torso, but in place of legs, he has a molded snake lower half with a long, rubberized tail. His head is a long skinny snake head with open mouth and fangs. Pythor is also armed with the Fangblade that has a special printed 1x1 round tile on the hilt with was only ever available in 4 sets. Spitta does have standard lime green legs and torso printed with snake scales, but his head is a flat snake head with cobralike hood which is printed with 4 eyes. He is armed with a rubber flail.

The Ultra Sonic Raider is an incredible vehicle which is built over the course of 5 stages. There are two separate cockpits which each will take one driver or pilot. The raider is one massive unit that can split apart into two independent machines, a half track tank and a bladed flying wing. At the back of the vehicle, a cone connected to an axel can be pushed in to release the flier and pulled out to lock the two together when the plane lands.

    No photo description available.

The tank has two large 94.2mm rubber tires closely set at the back combine. Those combine with two tank treads made from 23 wide tread elements each in the front of the vehicle. On either side, there are flick missile launchers that can shoot at the enemy. L19 rubber “ammo belt” elements with 7 golden sias attached to each side lead from the center, behind the driver, to each missile launcher, giving the impression that these work like chain guns.

The plan has golden wings build from six huge blades that extend outwards when the two vehicles separate. Flames shoot out of each side behind the cockpit, representing powerful engines that provide thrust for this flying wing. Two sonic cannons are mounted on either side and can be moved around in an arc over the plane. Near the tail, two angled grill elements create a cell that can hold a captured enemy for transport back to the temple.

As a 13-year-old set, I was not expecting this set to be as awesome as it is. The build was interesting, using some fun techniques and integrated LEGO System elements and Technic pieces seamlessly. The finished models are very sturdy and great for playing. They also have lots of fun play features to explore. The set is also replete with interesting parts like all the weapons included, the 46 treads parts and the huge back wheels. Best of all, it gave me a chance to learn more about the history of Ninjago!

A spectacular rider with spaceship inside

Written by (AFOL , bronze-rated reviewer) in Italy,

The set LEGO Ninjago 9449 Ultra Sonic Raider refers to the episode of the Ninjago series in which the Spinjitzu masters have identified Pythor the supreme leader and his protector Spitta, a soldier of the tribe of Venomari, intent to sneak away with the fang-sword Fangpyre .

The set 9449 is sold in a box of large size, and consists of:

    • Crawler supersonic
    • Four minifigs of Ninjago: Kai, Zane, Jay, Cole
    • Two minifigs: Pythor, Spitta|

and is aimed at an audience of at least 8 years old, but in this case I think we can safely say that even children an year younger with enough experience in LEGO bricks are able to safely assemble and play it.

The assembly begins, as usual, from the envelope number 1 without any difficulty starting with minifigs, after it passes to the assembly of the base of the rider. At this stage there you have to assemble the chassis of the rider, it is very long and wide to ensure proper rigidity, and for this reason is made with Lego Technic brick; therefore requires more attention and ability. It then goes to the envelope number 2 to assemble the cockpit of the base of the rider that does not present particular difficulties and allows you to easily finish and start with the envelope number 3, who allows you to assemble the mobile/rotating part of the track and the wheels.

At this point the base of the rider is completed and you start with the envelope number 4 to achieve the shuttle of the rider. That's the second phase that requires more attention because here there are integrated the mechanism for opening / closing the blades that allows the attachment/detachment to the rider and the small prison.

After completing the assembly I find it useful to report:

    PRO

    • Very interesting and innovative design.
    • Coupling/release system of the shuttle.
    • Dual cockpit.
    • Prison.
    • 4 Minifig Ninjago

    CONS

    • The part of the frame that holds the suspension tracked between the two tracks tends to form an arc due to the big length
    • The flames of the motors are unhook easily
    • The opening mechanism of the blades is not very easy to use

    Conclusions
The set 9449 is very interesting because it presents some solutions never seen before its presentation, such as the shape of the tracks, the tracks, the system that release the shuttle and the prison. It is a set that can not be missed in the collection of a Ninjago fan and provides the starting point for a variety of game scenarios. In addition, not underestimate the fact that with a single box, you will have four Ninjago minifig.

Explanations of what I think of the Ultra Sonic Raider.

Written by (KFOL) in United States,

Hi. I'm going to start with the pricing, which is perfectly fine. I would actually raise the price to $90! The packaging i'm gonna give a 4 cause it's so BIG! I really think that they could of made the box smaller. Alright the parts. So really think they could of put some more technic lift arms in there to make another special function. Now were on to building experience. Every LEGO set even the hardest one to build, I like to build it. And the small sets, i'm kinda disappointed. Ok playability. So again technic lift arms to make a special function. But the top coming of like a plane, I think that's really cool. The cage i like too. So for the overall rating its a E like on a calculator it doesn't have enough space for more. So I'll say a 27 (adding all the other ratings together). Bye.

2 Vehicles Are Better Than One By VBaskin2010

Written by (AFOL) in United States,

When Pythor finally resurrected their queen, Great Devourer it is up to the NinjaGo Ninjas to combine their new true potential powers to create the legendary Tornado Of Creation.

The result? a solar power race car type of tank and a lunar power energy gilder type of fighter jet all rolled up into one, and they christened it the Ultra Sonic Raider A.K.A. the NinjaGo Ninjas' Ninja Tank.

This vehicle is one of a kind whether they are one or they can separate as the Ninja Tank and the Sonic Gilder Jet.

Together this vehicle just got what it takes to not only stop the Great Devourer but also Pythor too.

But can the Raider do it, well duh! you know it can!

One of the best Ninjago sets!

    Written by (KFOL) in Australia,

The Ultra Sonic Raider is one of the best Ninjago sets in my opinion. There's a lot of figures, including the exclusive-to-this-set Pythor, and ZX Ninjas, with armor and places to put their katanas on their back. and includes all 4 Golden Weapons, with an extra Nunchuck of Lightning and Sword of Fire. The vehicle itself has a great colour scheme, and the gold daggers make it look more fearsome. The best part of the set (in my opinion) is that the vehicle can separate into 2. The vehicle is pretty large, and the golden swords are too. Also, like most Ninjago sets this looks pretty much like the actual one in the cartoon series, minus the prison cage.

    Pros

    • Includes the exclusive Pythor.
    • Very large vehicle can split into 2.
    • Has all 4 Golden Weapons, and a place to store them too.
    • Awesome colour scheme.
    • Golden Swords on jet/plane is humongous.
    • When the swords are in the jet locks on to the land vehicle, but when the swords are out it releases from the land vehicle.
    • Snake prison at the back of the vehicle.

    Cons

    • The treads don't move on wood, have to use something that is not smooth.
    • The 2 cockpits can only sit 1 Ninja each, so the other two just have to sit out of the vehicle.
    • Lego should have made a attacking thing for the bad guys too, since the only bad stuff are the snakes. They're no match for the Ninjas in this set.

This set is awesome, a great addition to your Ninjago sets. Pretty much one of the biggest Ninjago Ninja's vehicles. 9/10.
