I have always liked LEGO but had never owned a set. I bought my son a few of the LEGO Star Wars sets in the early 2000s and several of the Bob The Builder Duplo sets but that was it. My first set I bought for myself was 7092: Skeletons' Prison Carriage which I enjoyed, but what brought me out of my dark ages was the set from Space Police 3 - 5974: Galactic Enforcer. Wow! What a fun and creative line!

After that, I became the Will Rogers of LEGO - "I never met a set I didn't like." LEGO quickly built up into almost an obsession which peaked in 2014 with The LEGO Movie as I have almost every set released. Later in 2015 my interest began to wane slowly over the course of about 6-8 months like the air was being let out of a balloon. I recognized that God was working in me, trying to help me see that I was out of control and that my priorities were all wrong, putting my own needs ahead of my family.

Now I very rarely buy a set for myself. I ask for certain small sets for my birthday or Christmas. When I am interested in a set it must meet several parameters before I will own it. One of the main ones is that it must be around $30 or less.

Even though I know I am missing out on many fantastic sets, I have peace of mind not chasing after something that will never stop or end. It is a great feeling not being controlled by an obsession!
