Not Enough Adjectives

Not-my-president Trump, a proven liar, tweeted yesterday attacking Mika Brzezinski and Joe Scarborough (former Republican Congressman) because of their frequent criticism of him on the Morning Joe show.

Ignoring the fact that presidents are held to a higher professional standard and whatever they speak or write is a statement of the United States, he continues to lower the status of the United States.  Time and time again not-my-president Trump has disparaged individuals and shown his disrespect of women.  The simple fact is that he is boorish, never mind that he is unpresidential.

OUR NATION'S BUFFOON

There aren't enough adjectives to describe how unfit for the presidency this disgusting and arrogant man is.

Beating A Dead Horse

According to a new Pew Research poll a majority of Americans support single payer health care.  All the while support for the GOP health care plan, concocted by 13 men (no minorities, no women) behind closed doors, continues to drop.

A medicare style healthcare for all Americans would be the answer, however Republicans in the pocket of insurance lobbyists refuse to even bring it to the table.

As the GOP continues to kowtow to the insurance lobby, the healthcare needs of Americans are ignored.  It is time to stop beating that dead horse.

It's time for single payer.

Fake News Hypocrisy

While not-my-president Trump demagogues the media as "fake news" Time magazine has requested that a fake cover of not-my-president Trump be removed from display.

The cover, displayed at some of not-my-president Trump's resorts, was not created by Time, nor was it authorized by Time.

Beyond fake news, it is ultra arrogance.  And hypocrisy.

There You Have It Wisconsin

Okay Wisconsin, now is your chance to put your money where your mouth is.  You voted for Trump based on his promises to “drain the swamp” in Washington and represent the middle class.  Right in lockstep with him is Paul Ryan (R-WI 1st District).

Ryan came to Congress in 1999 with an average net worth of $380,000.  In 2000 he married a former congressional staffer turned Washington lobbyist and his net worth increased to nearly $2 million.

Back in February Ryan’s constituents asked for a town hall meeting during the congressional recess, but Ryan wouldn’t commit.  Why?  The answer is because he instead attended a “Winter PAC Retreat” at the Ritz-Carlton Key Biscayne in Miami, an event that welcomed donors who have given “a minimum contribution of $10,000″ to the Team Ryan joint fundraising committee.

In March people from across Ryan's district packed into a room at the Labor Center eager for an opportunity to confront Ryan. But they never got the chance because Ryan was a no-show. Organizers said they sent an invitation to his staff.  Ryan’s staff responded, ”Thank you for reaching out to invite Congressman Ryan to attend a town hall to be held on Saturday, March 11th. Unfortunately, he has prior commitments on that date.”  A card with the words "Reserved for Paul Ryan" was placed in front of an empty chair. Reportedly Ryan has not held a meeting with constituents for over 600 days.

Enter Randy Bryce, a U.S. Army veteran, cancer survivor, and union ironworker. He has entered the race for Wisconsin’s 1st Congressional District.  Bryce, the son of a father who was a police officer, now in assisted living, and a mother who is a retired medical office worker, has been an ironworker for 20 years.  His brother is a police officer and his sister is a public school teacher.

So, there you have it Wisconsin.  This time around do you really want someone who represents the working class?  Or would you rather leave someone in Congress who is now entrenched, in it for his own political and personal gain?

Liar

Not-my-president Trump has said something untrue, in public, every day for the first 40 days of his presidency.

The streak didn’t end until March 1.  Since then, he has said something untrue on at least 74 of 113 days. On days without an untrue statement, he is often absent from Twitter, vacationing at Mar-a-Lago in Florida, or busy golfing.  (NY Times)

Enough Problems Already

Here's one for everyone like me who has a problem with weight control.

Burger King has introduced the Lucky Charms Shake.

Fast food aficionados are already submitting their reviews and raving how great it is.  And, who doesn't like a good ice cream shake?  But wait.  What about the nutrition values?  In all the hoopla over the shake how many sources are telling us exactly what nutrition value this shake has?

740 calories!?  107 grams of sugar!?  129 grams carbs!?  17 grams fat?!  Even 580 mgs of sodium!? This begs the question - exactly what nutritional value does this shake have?

One thing is for sure, one of these shakes will never touch my lips.  I have enough weight problems already.

Can't Afford To Lose Any

A while back I posted about how when the rabbits start multiplying - rapidly - they like to munch on the plants, flowers and garden here on the farm.

I've been using a .22 single shot rifle to keep them under control, but they are getting cagier.  So, a few days ago I picked up a scope for the rifle at Scheel's to give me a bit more edge.  It was priced at $45, however I got it for $20 with a $25 coupon (yup, I'm still a bonafide cheapskate).

Yesterday I spent a long time trying to sight in the scope and, for the life of me, couldn't figure out what I was doing wrong.  Since I don't have a laser sighter I was using the bore sighting method at 25 yards, which is looking down the rifle bore at a target and centering on the bullseye as best as one can.  Then, in theory you should be able to sight the scope on the target.  Not so simple.

It wasn't until this morning that I was finally able to get it adjusted.  Likely yesterday I was making the adjustments too aggressively.  After the first shot I tweaked the elevation and windage slightly, which worked.

Even though the scope wasn't completely adjusted yesterday, I was able to shoot a skunk at dusk that was making its way toward the chickens.  With only five chickens we can't afford to lose any.

The Wackier It Gets

Not-my-president Trump keeps rolling out lawyers to muddy the water over the investigation into possible obstruction of justice.  Even not-my-president Trump's lawyers now have their own lawyers.

Enter Jay Sekulow, a right wing lawyer who is a frequent commentator on the Christian Broadcasting Network and the Faux News Channel. Yesterday Sekulow made the rounds on the news programs to dispute not-my-president Trump's tweet that he is being investigated.

Sekulow's deranged logic reminded me of a British comedy sketch.

The longer this investigation of not-my-president Trump goes on the wackier it gets.

The New Old Normal

Yesterday a so-called "nut" took his assault rifle to Washington, DC and fired on Republican congressmen who were at a baseball practice.

There was also a shooting in Sacramento where three UPS workers were killed which was overshadowed by the Washington shooting.

In the aftermath, Congress is falling all over themselves calling for politicians to "come together" and tone down the hate filled rhetoric, tiptoeing around the overwhelming number of shootings in this country with military style assault weapons.  Blah, blah, blah.

In virtually every shooting the standard response is that it was some "nut" with a gun.  And in every case Congress does nothing to stem the shootings with reasonable gun regulations.  All the crap about some "nut" with a gun is just that - crap.

Even when one of their own is shot with an assault rifle, Republicans maintain their loyalty to the NRA, not the American public.  It is now the new old normal and this too shall pass.

Obstruction Of Justice

In a meeting with former FBI director James Comey on Feb. 14th, Trump asked Attorney General Jeff Sessions and Vice President Mike Pence to leave the room. It was at that time Trump asked Comey to “let go” of the investigation into retired Lt. Gen. Michael Flynn.

“I hope you can see your way to letting this guy – to letting Flynn go,” Trump said. “He’s a good guy I hope you can let this go.”

In 1170 Thomas Becket, Archbishop of Canterbury, continually conflicting with the King of England, Henry II, over rights of the Church was killed.  Becket was murdered by four knights of the King the day after King Henry reportedly made the statement, "Will no one rid me of this turbulent priest?"  The knights interpreted that as a command.

Republicans are now parsing Trump’s statement that he “hoped” Comey would drop the investigation against Flynn as just a mild wish.  When asked how he interpreted Trump’s comment, Comey referred to the Becket murder to emphasize that he took Trump’s words as an order.

If Comey would have terminated the Flynn criminal investigation he would have been complicit in obstruction of justice.  One person should be charged criminally with obstruction of justice and that is not-my-president Trump.

Some Things Never Change

Tomorrow we go to town shopping.  Wednesday is our shopping day because both the farm supply store and the grocery store change their sale ads on Wednesdays.  Likely this is a throwback to the 1920's and 1930's when small farm communities ran weekly sales and stayed open late one evening each week.

Initially most farmers had to set aside a day to do the shopping, since it took time to get to town with a horse and buggy.  With the introduction of the affordable Model T they need only set aside a partial day or evening for shopping.

There are at least a dozen farm towns with a 30 minute drive of our farm.  Years back they were the shopping hubs for the area farmers.  As automobiles became more "modern" driving to the larger towns was shortened.   These once busy small farm towns are now mostly abandoned buildings.

Every Wednesday when we make the quick 20 minute drive to town to shop, I'm reminded of the "shopping nights" of the 1920's and 1930's in all the small, now abandoned, towns around us.  Just like the farm families of the 1920's and 1930's, we have made Wednesdays our traditional shopping day, enticed by the weekly ads.  Some things never change.

Finding Shade

It's only the first week of June and it feels like late July - HOT.  By 10:00 this morning it was 85º and with humidity that makes it feel like more.  Too hot to work outside, except in the early mornings.

The fourth cardinal hatched and it will soon be a crowded nest.  We will keep a watch in case one falls out of the nest.  At least the mother cardinal won't have to sit on the nest in the daytime with this heat.  She's going to be busy scouting food.

Even the nice neighbor farmer's cows seek shade by mid-morning.

If you look at the left of the picture you will see the little calves taking it easy.  One of the cows was immediately aware I was in their space.  With ears perked up, she took a protective stance over the calves.

Finding shade seems to be the order of the week.

Hope They Survive

Things are growing here on the farm.  Some make it and some don't.

For whatever reason rabbits seem to think digging a tunnel in the lawn to hide the baby rabbits is a good idea.  That is, until we go by with the mower and cannot see the nest.  It's a gruesome way to die, but likely quick.  No pics for that.

Our peach tree is filling up with peaches again this season.  It should be as good of a harvest as last year.

A cardinal has decided to make a tree in the garden her home and laid four eggs.  We've been watching and today three of the eggs hatched.

We generally see plenty of robin nests, but this is the first cardinal nest.  Hopefully the little buggers will all survive.
