Natasha, for the winner of my @marveltrumpshate auction, who requested a callback to the Captain America panel “a flag is a piece of cloth”

Hey there! I thought about describing the process but then this seemed easier, just to go through it bit by bit for you.

I just lay down blocks of colour for the underpin, usually a dark flesh tone, then go in with patches of highlights and shadow, using the gum eraser to blend as I go.

Then accents with pencils and sharpened conté sticks, basically laying down the foundations and following the shape of the face.

This one is for the Stucky Big Bang so I’m not quite ready to post the finished product but I hope it helps to explain how I go about faces and flesh tones. I did a similar process post with T’Challa here if you’re interested in darker skin tones. Thank you so much for your lovely message <3

ETA - finished piece is here

  12. mishtershpock asked: hi! do you use pastels for your colour drawings (e.g. the stucky ones recently)? i've been drawing for years and i've never been able to get that level of shading and range of colour with pastels- it's awesome :)

I do use soft pastels, and also pastel pencils and conté sticks. I love how painterly they are and the dust is way more acceptable to me than paint fumes and other wet media mess. And I just love drawing, I guess, rather than painting, but the effect of blending pastels can be so creamy, especially when you use something like a gum eraser to blend with instead of fingers or smudge sticks. I use a pretty heavily textured paper and using a gum eraser to blend gives it a really nice feel that I like.

I had a little sketch of T’Challa started so I thought I’d use this opportunity to take a break from the next Missing CACW Scene which is fucking killing me nbd nbd finish it and show you my tools and my technique.

Click below for the WIP shots. Thanks a lot for the message! <333
