Cowboy Zig Zag Rails

Our Extended Family is Extending  - which means,... they (we don't know if it's a he or a she) need a quilt from their Great Aunt right?????

I think this one may be it. This is my Ranch family, so it seems Cowboy/western prints could fit the bill.

This is my Zig Zag Rails Pattern (in my etsy store)  I designed it years ago for my 5th graders to sew. Of course we did them in Red White and Blues for our Quilts of Valor. I like the re-imagined color scheme.

There is a story in these photos. My son was holding up the quilt for me, and Pound Puppy couldn't figure out where he went. She sat beautifully until she saw his boots - and then she went nuts!! She knew they were his boots, but WHERE WAS HE?

I laughed so hard as she tried to figure out where he was! He dropped the quilt a little to show his face and she wiggled everywhere. He pulled the quilt back up and 🠇🠇🠇
Oh she is hilarious - She is such a puppy and so much fun, Daisy is not upset, she is trying to slink away. She saw a cat and she knows she can't have cats, but! I was distracted.... so just maybe this one????

Anyways that is my finish for the week - Bound and ready for Baby!!

How about you? How did your week go? Finishes? Almost Finished? Moving it towards a Finish?

Cowboy Churn Dash is a Top!! and!! Finished ( or not) Friday!!

Happy Happy Friday!!!  It's the Friday before Thanksgiving - and you all... I am so ready for the kids to be home for a few days, and just hang out with the ones that make it here!!

I have to say that I Love this time of year - so many quilters are getting their Christmas Quilts ready, and lawsy mercy - I get to quilt them - SUCH FUN!!

The funniest thing tho - about 5 weeks ago a Client brought me 2 King sized quilts. I don't see a lot of King Sized quilts. But I need to make one for my new bed!! .... But!! Since that one  Client brought me hers - I have been brought ( Been Given? English left me for a moment)   8 more!!!

Isn't that so funny how things go in trends??

I did get this top to a finished stage!!

I had help trying to get a photo in the wind... and the cold, but I am not sure she got the idea?

She understood that she was supposed to get behind the quilt.....

But she couldn't figure out how to make it hold still.....

So she gave up - and decided it was better to sniff trees... but at least she tried!!!
When it is quilted - we will do a better job right?

Now it is your turn - what is Finished ( or not) in your world?

Direct link please...

and who is having something other than Pumpkin Pie?

All over the Place.. The Cowboy Churn Dash

I have not met a Churn dash that I don't like.... yet!!!

I really enjoyed reading all your comments on my All over the Place post - and I truly loved the vibe that came with them. And I would like to add - that... In my Will and final papers I have a list of people for my kids to call if they don't want to deal with my projects, fabrics, and craft stuff...

Who knows where they will be in their stage of lives when I am 120.... but!! I did at least make a list and a diagram of my room as of this moment  ;-)

If you remember I found 5 FQ's that I didn't want to put away - and from that - I made 15 Churn Dashes....

15 is an Odd Number... so I might have gone to my trusty plaid bin and got enough to make one more block..... and who Doesn't need plaid in a quilt??? ( Not me!! The more the merrier!!)

The count is now 16 - and

This is where I am now... I am pretty sure I want to sash them - but maybe not - I'll schooch them together on the Design wall for a day and see what I think - It may be fun to just put them together and use one of my other cowboy fabrics for a border.... hmmmm

the Possibilities!!

All Over the Place

I am kind of all over the place right now in my Quilting Journey. Not at a fork in the road - just kinda wanting to touch all the plants on the trail  haha!!

It has been a lot of re-organizing , sorting, keeping and culling for the last 7 months - and EVERY time I start playing with fabrics I want to make something else.... so my piles ( for my pile projects) are growing... but alas the time in the day does not grow... ( Why????)

I figure - I already have the fabric .. why not keep starting new things? And if I finish - yay - if not.... well.... I learned something, or had some fun or enjoyed myself.

Then I went to a quilt lecture, and the speaker ( who was wonderful btw) said she had been cleaning her moms Quilting stash and was so overwhelmed the the amount of unfinished projects. She was sort of angry that her mother had not finished so many things. So the Speaker made herself a sign that said

'Just Finish it"

I got that, but at the same time... I don't.

Who says we have to finish everything that we start?

Who says that if we don't finish it we have wasted our time?

I have found some things that I haven't finished, and I probably won't... so I put them in a decide later pile. That way... I can think on them - do I want to take the time, do I want to pass them on? Who would benefit from this? or.... is it better to use as a rag?  ( and yes - that is acceptable too)

My Mom was an Author. She had books published... but in her files... she has tons of stories that are half baked. Ideas that swirled in her head and never made it to the printed page. I believe that is a form of creativity too...

By no means, is anyone angry with her for not finishing each and every idea that comes into her head. However she is allowed to write them down, noodle them for a while, and then file them...

Creativity!!

All that to say - I started a new thing - without finishing something else. And it made me happy!!

As I was rearranging to make more room - I stumbled across these 5 Cowboys FQ's - and I did not want to put them away.... I wanted to hold them, and use them, and create!! So I am !

Of course - I went to my Go to Pattern... Not a lot of thought for me to make these... which again!! Just what I was looking for!!!  and Ta da!!

Five Churn Dashes are done

And my cowgirl heart is Happy!!

Now to figure out how to get more time in the day..... You'll share that with me right??

Cowboy Gingham - up on the design Wall

I am back to playing with that Ginham/Buffalo Plaid pattern... This time

I dug into some of my coveted Cowboy Fabrics...

I had that little red one up on the design wall, and I thought - I wonder what would happen if you used 10 inch squares? so.... I had to go cut 10 inch squares and see what I thought.

I kinda like it - its not big - 50 ish (you know seam allowance) Square

But it was a fun fast one to cut and get up on the wall

Now to stitch it up!!!

Today is an anniversary of sorts. One that I don't think I want to remember very many times. A year ago today my Mom got her Pancreatic Cancer diagnoses. It wasn't but 10 months before that our world came to a stop with my Dads  Heart Episodes, and here .. it stopped again.

It's one of those things that is still weird - we knew she wasn't feeling well, and had been trying to eliminate foods that bothered her. Then the Doc said she had Diverticulitis and so more foods were eliminated and she got some small pain pills. For a lady who never took more that Tylenol - that was a change. And then - They did another test to check some things - and Bam!

The world as we knew it changed.... still not a fan of the change....

Stars Unfurled.... a new Start

Remember all those starts I told you about?

Well!!! I am here to tell you ---- its so fun to keep starting new things!!

I started another new!!

Katie Mae put out a call for Pattern Testers - and I thought -well now that sounds like a fun thing to do! and so !! I did!! I filled out the form and she said "Get to work!" and so I am!!

Okay - she really didn't tell me to get to work, but I totally got the idea - so I am giving up doing the dishes for a month so I can *work*   ( wink wink)

The Name of her new Pattern is called Stars Unfurled - I mean - doesn't that just sound like  Pattern I would want to test?

These are my Fabric Choices.... and I am ready to start!!

And!! I am still working on my Something New Pattern Remake!! I have a feeling I will be able to show that to you soon... if all the stars align!! And I am loving working with these fabrics!!

Starting Something New!

I have been saving some fabrics... and I am not 100% sure why I was saving them, but as I was Planning a remake of a  Quilt pattern I had designed.... I thought - well Heck fire!!

I should use my Cowboy fabrics!!

And so I pulled a bunch of them out and I think I have decided on these!!

Now here is the question - Should I tell you what pattern I am making? Or should I make you guess?

  • It is one that I have made many times
  • It is one That I wrote
  • I designed the block and it was a New to me Design.....

hmmmm what to do?

it is one that has been in my Quiltygirl shop for a while......

Hmmm - Maybe I will make you guess!!! Or... just wait and see.....

A Cowboy Finish!!! and Finish Friday!!

 Happy Happy Friday!!

When I moved to Colorado they told me that if you weren't happy with the weather - wait 5 minutes... haha!  This week we had miserable HOT summer ( 100) wind, a little Fall... and Winter!! ( we had 2 inches of snow - more in the high country!)  its been fun!!!

And the good thing... I got some client quilting in!!  ( finished FOUR client quilts)  AND!! I even....

Drumroll please.....

Bound a Quilt....for the Finish!!

Tonight... I will start planning my next finish!! Yay!!

I tried to get my Dog to help hold the quilt up - but he would have none of it!! haha!

Here is a close up of the quilting - its so fun - horse shoes, and boots and hats!!

And then.... just because I am sure that you want to see the back.
I found such a great print - I even made a mask for my hubby out of it!!

Ohhh Doesn't a finish just make you want to start another quilt? !!

Well - Now it is your turn to share your finishes for this week!!

Cowboy Quilt top.... and FINISHED Friday!!

Yippee Ki Yay!!!

I got my Cowboy Quilt to the TOP stage - yay me!!

I have been working a little each day, and all of a sudden - I knew that if I put dinner in the oven, and ignored everything until the buzzer went off... I could get it topped... .and then I grabbed a kid - Bam!!

There it is!!

And you know - this may be the one time my Brown grass looks good - It gives it a nice background right?  and a few cows are there grazing... just to make you think it is all quiet and Idyllic here ( bwah ha ha)

Gratuitous Dog photo.  he is my buddy and follows me everywhere. We have started walking every morning - and so far - he goes a mile before he thinks we should quit. Pretty good for a tiny dog!  But man does he get dirty!!

Now!! It is time for you to brag!! What is your Finished ( or not) Friday brag? Link away!!

Cowboy Quilt

Back in March - maybe April - our Quilt Shop started doing some shipping and pick up shopping -

I called and said - I need some Western Fabrics - what do you have?

and they texted me photos of what they had, I chose what I wanted - and Bam!! Two days later - it arrived at my house!!

I have finally made some progress on it - and here is what is up on my Design Wall now...
It is pretty scrappy looking, even though it is a controlled Fabric scheme - but I like it.

and I wanted something fun to sew....

and NOW!! I have started a new project... you will want to come back Wednesday to see what I am up to.....
