New Steve Martin DVD/CD

I received an email from Amazon.com this morning announcing Steve Martin's new album/ video that was just released on March 11, 2014. Click on the link or image below and you can watch a full length video track of Steve and the Rangers performing "Pretty Little One".

EDITORIAL REVIEW (from Amazon.com):
Steve Martin and The Steep Canyon Rangers, featuring Edie Brickell, will release their first ever live concert CD/DVD package capturing their extraordinary performance at the historic Fox Performing Arts Center in Riverside California last fall. The live performance was recorded for PBS Great Performances and features material from Martin and Brickells Grammy-nominated album Love Has Come For You, as well as music from Martins Grammy nominated collaboration with The Steep Canyon Rangers, Rare Bird Alert, and his Grammy Award winning album The Crow: New Songs for the Five-String Banjo. This special live CD/DVD features Martins unique blend of comedy and bluegrass and is a first class evening of excellent entertainment.
Disc one has 19 tracks and disc two has 21 tracks. That's a lot of entertainment for around $16.

One of my favorite skits from long ago is Steve's "Cat Handcuffs" routine but it is no longer available on their mp3 store. Good thing I already have it.

But, while looking for "Cat Handcuffs", I saw a song off Steve Martin's Red Bird Alert album with Paul McCartney singing "Best Love" (click here for sample).

Enjoy!

HAPPY BIRTHDAY to Rowan Atkinson

Rowan Atkinson
Yesterday I watched a fun video on YouTube (more about that below) and looked up Rowan Atkinson on imdb to see who the woman was in this video (I'm sure she's the daughter from Ab Fab) and discovered that his birthday is TODAY, January 6th (Epiphany or Three Kings' Day). He was born in 1955.

In my opinion, I think that Atkinson is a very skilled comedian, actor, and writer. I love Black Adder and watched the Black Adder's Christmas Carol over the holidays. His Mr. Bean character is difficult for me to watch as he makes me nervous, though I do enjoy Mr. Bean's Holiday with him bumbling through France.

I didn't realize that he participated in The Secret Policeman's Balls. We used to have this on VHS and will have to get the DVD. Another blast from the past that I'd like to have is The Best of Not the 9 O'Clock News. We loved the comedy shows on BBC Radio 4 that would later become TV shows (such as Yes, Minister).

Perhaps you received an Amazon Gift Certificate that you'd like to redeem or, if not, just plonk down your plastic to get one of these :)

Click on an image to go to its Amazon DVD page

Here's the YouTube video I watched yesterday. It is a brilliant spoof of Doctor Who performed for a Comic Relief Red Nose Day telecast in 1999, Doctor Who and the Curse of Fatal Death. Starring: Rowan Atkinson, Richard E. Grant, Jim Broadbent, Hugh Grant, Julia Sawalha, Jonathan Pryce, and, must not leave out Roy Skelton who is the voice of the various Daleks.

There is a wikipedia page about it HERE.

Have a great day!

Attention: Browncoats, Firefly & Castle Fans

This morning we did some Christmas shopping on Amazon.com with a gift certificate we received, and we were shocked to find that Castle Season Two was only $14.99.

Wow, such a DEAL !!!  Last time we looked it was $39.99... That's a 62.5% discount.

Mr & Ms Cheapseats did not have to ponder over this purchase very long... We might be cheap but not stupid :)

Thank you, Santa!

So, all of you Browncoats, Nathan Fillion, Firefly & Castle fans, if you don't already have this DVD buy it now as maybe this is a seasonal sale.  If you already have it, buy both Season One (also $14.99) and Season Two for a deserving friend.

I forgot to order the books, Heat Wave and Naked Heat which are the Nikki Heat books the character Richard Castle is writing in the television series.  Should be interesting.  Oh well, next order :)

These books are also available on Kindle...

We need to get an e-reader... See Bob's Boat Bits post: Tis the season for e-book conundrums...

Happy Holidays!

Kudos for Amazon.com

I'd like to say a big THANK YOU to Amazon.com. I'm really impressed with their service.
We've been reviewing previous episodes of The Shield in preparation to watching our new DVDs of the final series of The Shield, Season 7.

Well, about 3 minutes into the first show we get an error message "Skipping over damaged area".  It never recovers from this error and we have to Force Quit DVD Player. I pop the DVD back in and try to run it forward and it starts churning away... not good. Crash the program again and put in Disc 2.  Problems right off the bat with "Skipping over damaged area".

Oh my gosh... is my computer having problems?  Put in a DVD of a movie and that worked fine.  This morning I examined the DVD set and all four discs are defective with marks on them right out of the box.

I wrote to Amazon and explained that even though we purchased them in June 2009, we just opened the box last night and they are defective. Can we exchange them?

Within 5 minutes I had a reply. During this time they had ordered the series for me for free (total=$0.00), prepared an RMA form, and mailing label. Also, the replacement series is being sent before they receive my dead DVDs back.

UPDATE: When I looked at my email yesterday evening, I was again surprised to see that the order had been sent.  This all happened within 12 hours of my inquiry!

I am so impressed.  They get a gold star!

Thank you Amazon!

We only make a few pennies on purchases but everything helps and we appreciate it!

Huff Season 2 on YouTube

We bought the HUFF DVD of season one several years ago and have been searching ever since for the 2nd season. The first season had quite a cliffhanger.

It appears that Showtime doesn't plan to release it on DVD for some reason.

Last week, I did a search on YouTube and someone has put up the entire 13 episodes of Huff Season 2. Hurray! I would still buy the series if it ever comes out but now we can find out what's happened. Will we ever discover more about the Homeless Hungarian? The episodes are cut up into 10-minute bits but So It Goes...

That's entertainment... DVDs

Last November we bought Seasons 6 & 7 of the TV Series 24. We decided to watch Seasons 1-5 before watching 6 & 7.

So, the other night we were down to the last two episodes of Season 4 and the disc has unrecoverable file errors. We tried the DVD on two other computers and it was the same story. We tried to rip it but it couldn't read the file structure of the disc. Bummer.

We then started Season 5 which had a little recap of what happened in Season 4...  we saw that they killed off Jack and then managed to get this Energizer Bunny up and running again. Everything was fine until the 3rd episode on the 2nd disc.  CTU discovers where the nerve gas is located but upon opening the cases, they see that the canisters of nerve gas are missing. Then the show stalls with the "spinning pizza of death" cursor on the screen, and finally DVD Player crashes. Same thing again and again. This afternoon I thought I would try to run "tonight's" disc on my computer to make sure that it was OK just in case our DVD player says there is a problem when we watch it tonight as maybe the DVD player is causing the disc to be damaged. No, that's not the case because when I tried to play the last episode of Disc 3 on my computer (before running it in the DVD player) it said "skipping over bad sectors". I tried to rip it but that didn't fix anything. Couldn't watch the program.

What to do? We've only watched this series once and there is no evidence of scratches or mold/mildew on the DVDs.

Large TB hard drives are now more "affordable" so perhaps we should rip all of the DVDs (hundreds!) to a hard drive. But that still doesn't solve the problem of not being able to re-watch this series.

Shucky-darn... So It Goes...

Mail Call... Received new DVDs: Farscape series

Yesterday we went to pick up our mail and we had a very heavy box from Amazon.  Good thing it came to us here and not in St Maarten where we pay beaucoup bucks for packages :)

It was our video order which included FARSCAPE, THE COMPLETE SERIES.

Now, what is so cool about this, is that it has 26 DVDs that includes all 88 episodes of Farscape, plus special feature things. Eighty-eight episodes is a lot of viewing time for only $59.99.  Talk about bang for the buck! At two episodes per night, it will take almost six weeks to watch the series, and then there's the extras, and there is a movie too (The Peacekeeper Wars).

We saw some Farscape when we lived in St. Thomas and we were always happy when they had flashbacks so we could see parts that we'd missed. We looked into buying the series before but, as I remember it was going to cost in the vicinity of $300 for the whole series.

Have to buy more popcorn...

Watched film EASY VIRTUE tonight

We just finished watching the movie EASY VIRTUE on DVD (based on Noel Coward play). Their musical interpretation of Car Wash, & When the Going Gets Tough the Tough Get Going were especially interesting.

We'll never find the CD in St Maarten, so we checked Amazon.com and they have the soundtrack for the film as MP3 downloads, either by individual tracks or the entire album... COOL!

Good flick, too.

AMAZON.COM Fall TV Sale

You should know by now that So It Goes loves TV series on DVD as they are a great bang for the buck. We do not have access to TV aboard so this is the only way we can watch programming that's available to the general public. We try not to read anything that will be spoilers for the season that we have not yet watched, such as House MD and Lost.

So, good news for us is that Amazon.com just notified us that they are having a FALL TV SALE.
Amazon DVD is celebrating the return of the TV season with our Fall TV Sale. With over 1000 TV DVDs and Blu-ray Discs up to 54% Off, and deals as low as $5.99 including favorites like The Office, 24, Mad Men, Entourage and many more. Sale dates are September 2, 2009- September 30, 2009 while supplies last.
Mad Men is a series we ordered last month but we haven't seen it yet. Our Amazon order is waiting for us at Reefco in St. Thomas. Thanks, Edy for holding our mail for us.

Readers: if you need anything to do with air conditioning, refrigeration or watermakers, check out Reefco in St. Thomas, USVI. http://www.reefco.net

So, I'm going to go look and see what Amazon has on sale... Maybe buy the second season of Mad Men? What's one more box, hey Edy??

Monty Python's Flying Circus

Amazon.com wrote to let me know that they are having a sale on The Complete Monty Python's Flying Circus 16-Ton Megaset (1982)

This is definitely a MUST HAVE. A 16-disc set for under $55. That's a good bang for the cruising buck!

I should order this today so it will be in St. Thomas when we get over there... and FREE shipping.

Enjoy!

A couple of interesting posts

A couple of recent blog posts that I've found interesting:
  • Stinky Soy Goo Could Fight Alzheimer's
This looks like a tasty way to keep Alzheimer's at bay :)

"Natto is a soybean product that is sticky, slimy and smelly, but it might be able to ward off Alzheimer's disease. Once a theme ingredient on Iron Chef, natto contains an enzyme called nattokinase that can shred brain plaque, and chemists think it could become a game-changing medication."

  • Won't find these on AMAZON.com: Vicodin Earrings
One of our favorite TV shows is HOUSE MD. Having lived in Europe for over a decade we became big Hugh Laurie fans and we were intially shocked to see him as an American super-doc as opposed to the foppish English aristocrat in BLACK ADDER. House is not known to see his patients unless in extreme circumstances but this will get him running to the bedside... Vicodin earrings. See this post on how to make your own!

Frightening - The Osmands 50th Anniversary Concert

Yesterday, I received a scarey email from Amazon.com notifying me of a DVD available for pre-order.... The Osmonds - Live in Las Vegas 50th Anniversary Reunion Concert

What?! FIFTY years !!! This concert was in 2007 which means 1957 when I was 2 years old. Wow, they must have been young and Donny wasn't even a twinkle way back then, was he?

So, here... take a look! Such a deal at $14.99 for a concert DVD. There's a video clip you can watch... Wow, blast from the past!

I'm sure this will bring back all sorts of memories for you, too! ...or if you're a "young whippersnapper" your parents :)
